 The ocular lenses are beefier than the ones in the diamondback HD. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends.  The image quality is superb, with very little chromatic aberration and only slight cyan and magenta color fringing in high contrast edges. One glaringly disappointing issue is just that

I checked several websites providing tips and advice; however, as a total beginner both in birdwatching and optics I still find myself at a loss when I have to make a decision, and I saw that the price gap between different products can be ridiculously huge. Can someone help me? I'm not ready to invest too much money on it yet (let's say \~150-200$ tops), but at the same time I'm looking for some decent quality product. Is it possibile within my budget, or I am dreaming? Thank you for your time!

Need help find binoculars for birdwatching

..when I decided to sink nearly $600.00 into a pair of binoculars I had some expectations, including that the lens caps would be as high a quality as the optics are

  Short answer: The large lens flaps are useless. They are almost impossible to 'snap' into place (seriously 9 out of every 10 attempts I make to cover the large lenses result in the caps popping off again immediately. The last thing I want to have to do is force them into position because I should NOT have to risk damaging an expensive purchase just to protect the very expensive lenses. I'm very disheartened that the company 'cheaped out' on lens protection

 Cheap, flimsy, ill-fitting lens covers-.5 stars.  As much as I love my Viper optics, knowing what I do now, if I had to do it all over again I'd opt to invest my money in something that is quality from the optics all the way down to the lens covers. Attention to ALL details is what should be the company's mantra

Great Optics, LOUSY Lens Protection

I use a 85mm Vortex Razor HD for shorebirds and perched raptors. A 12x binocular is more comfortable to use and has a more pleasant, ‘bigger view’, but it isn’t going to compete with the sheer reach that a scope is capable of. I generally use my scope with a fixed 30x eyepiece, but if the atmospherics are right it can be very sharp over long distances up to 40x-45x with a zoom eyepiece.

I have a mid range 8x and 10x, and have been looking at adding a 12x for longer reach when looking at wildlife a little further off and at the ocean. These would be mounted on a tripod.   

I’ve been looking at binocular reviews online for optics such as the Tract Toric 12.5x50 at $700+ and the Vortex Viper HD 12x50 at $500+. 

(I’ve decided against the Swarovski NL Pure 12x42 at over $3000 - lolz).

Any thoughts or experiences you fine people have and would like to share? I always appreciate the expertise and wisdom! Thx...

12x in the sub-$1000 for Nature

  Eye relief seems unusually short for these binoculars. Other reviewers are ok with the short eye relief. It's hard to know until you try. I can't use these

  I found it difficult to see thru these binoculars. The field of view is small with blurry edges. The view improves if the eye cups are resting on my eyelids, but that leaves smears on the lenses. I tried it with the eye cups extended but then needed to press more firmly into my eye sockets, and still get smears when my eyes are close enough

  I tried them at night. 50 instead of 25 should be 4X brighter, but I see no better than with old 10x25.  Eye relief seems unusually short for these binoculars. Other reviewers are ok with the short eye relief

Binoculars — important or no?

A really great set of binoculars. I have been using mine heavily for birding for the last year and a half. Pros: They have great glass that is very clear and bright. They fit well in my hands

 I have kept mine in the truck through blazing hot summer days and freezing cold nights with no apparent distress. The locking diopter is nice because you set it once and forget about it for life. The rain caps and lens covers both work well, are durable and easy to use. There is absolutely zero backlash in the focus wheel, which makes focus precision better

 Pros: They have great glass that is very clear and bright. They fit well in my hands. The build quality is excellent and durable. They basically look and feel exactly like the day I bought them, maybe a little patina on the rubber armor

Great Binoculars!

Below is my review of the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 that were on sale, but I mention the BX-2 that are on sale for $150. At the price I would definitely grab them and see what you think. The other option I think Optics planet has the diamondback HD’s 10x42 on sale for about $140. I prefer the Vortex brand myself
