I’m a college student and broke as ever but I am finally sitting with the setup I dreamed of for years. I finally saved up enough to get two one’s, a play 5, a roam AND THE SUB!!! They say money can’t buy happiness but I think it can in some situations, I’ve struggled with severe mental health the last couple years and music is my therapy thanks to these speakers. thank you, sonos.

The Sonos Five is a wired mid-size speaker that you can use horizontally or vertically. With its Trueplay room correction feature turned on, it has a bright sound profile that brings sparkle and detail to vocals and instruments. It also offers quite an extended low-bass, so you can feel the thump and punch in bass-heavy audio

I would listen to largely them paired in a group when I was cooking or cleaning and was pretty impressed with the sound (especially the Play:5 as it is a beast of a speaker). Recently needing to move the Play:5 and having gifted the Beam to my parents who were using their TV speakers on a nice big TV (shudders), I put two Play:1's in a stereo pair angled at 45 degrees in either corner where I previously had the other two speakers.

My 7 year old Play 5 inexplicably died on Saturday. No warning, just suddenly no power. Rang them this morning, quick bit of troubleshooting and a video of the speaker proving no power coming through and new Play 5 Gen.2 on the way for free. Superb customer service.

And it costs the same $499

The Play:5 has always been the speaker that smart speakers like the Amazon Echo and Apple’s HomePod could never quite measure up to — unless you bought two of them, anyway.

Is the Sonos play 5 gen 1 still a decent option in may 2022?

Also using them as PC speakers kind of over kill, Play 5 and 5 are large speakers with wide stage presence best used to project into a room and not project at someone's face 1-2' away from their computer... Which ever you get, they will be loud, in your face, and they are quite large too (desk space, floor space, wall space). I don't know your full intent of utilization, but with little known - I would not get this for a PC setup... Best used as stereo pair in a room to project into a full space.
