Real really is Nice sweet, shimmed very nicely. A little bit of play, it's just a little bit. handle knob pretty darn good

They are just an example of supreme engineering. The Daiwa Exist LT is also a dream of a reel, and in some ways it is even more refined than the Stella, but I personally find Shimano's have the edge for durability. For a more sensible budget then it is between the Shimano Vanford (carbon body) or the Shimano Stradic FL (Aluminium body). I have a 12 year old Stradic which is still smooth, they really are impossible to beat for the money.

Quality in shimano products continue to go down hill , for 200 plus dollars it might be time to look for a new brand to support . I have over 20 reels overall the older ones are much better made . I would consider the new stradic cheaply made .

I’m looking for a strong 4000 size spinning reel. I’m at this stage pretty set on a Stradic FL.

Any reels in that price range you can recommend over the Stradic? And why?

The 1000, this is a great smooth reel and the smallest of the line. It's better than previous Stradic's I have and it should be right? Do note the 1000 do not have Carbontex drag washer but it's not advertised. Add only one 1mm thick washer and you practically have a Stella with the bearing upgrades...

You could probably find a Stradic FL for that price. I have a Vanford as well as a Stradic CI4+, they're nice but the best thing about them is the weight. They pair beat with light rods. The Tatula LT is supposed to be very good as well.

Bought 2 Shimano reels within a week. One for me, one as gift for Alaska trip with friend. The gift was found to be defective while in Alaska but 3rd party (Fishermens Source) refused to replace the reel while stating that I should deal directly with Shimano warranty. I thought maybe it was a dud so I masked up and tried several at the store, only to find they were all the same way. I tried a Stradic FL there too which was smooth as ever but too heavy for my preferences, so I left empty handed. I don’t think this is ok at this price range.
