The best reels for beginners are the Daiwa Fuego or Tatula CT and Shimano SLX XT. These reels greatly outperform lower-priced options for 20-35 more in cost. They have better brakes leading to fewer problems with backlashing as a beginner.

It's OK it won't take too much line I don't recommend this for saltwater fishing even to catch strippers or anything like that.. The reel is so tiny it barely takes any of the spool. I’d like a Fox 36 instead of the Fox 34 it comes with but full Shimano SLX for the drive train is nice. This bike would be a nice way to get back into mountain biking while letting me save some money for an eBike later down the road. I'm not a big shimano baitcaster fan but I think this is a great reel for under $150. Super smooth, easy to set up looks great feels good in hand, (I have small hands) almost as good as my Lews. I wouldn't hesitate to replace any of my Lews tournament MBs with these.

I believe that the kmc x12 chain that came with my bike had compatibility issues with the shimano slx cassette. With the new shimano xt chain installed shifting is perfect and the chain noise is gone. The bad news is that chains are very scarce right now.

Very smooth, casts extremely well, drag is sufficient, could be a fee lbs stronger. 4 stars because nothing is perfect.
