Even lower-cost hitch racks can still be pretty expensive, but we recently discovered a new hitch-mount rack that we feel is an excellent value: the RockyMounts MonoRail. It costs a significant amount less than the highest-priced hitch racks, yet it provides similar features and performance. Like most great platform racks, the MonoRail holds the bike by the wheels, so there is no frame contact. It offers a high level of versatility, with well-designed wheel trays and the included ladder strap extenders that can handle everything from skinny road tires up to 5-inch fat bike behemoths. Testers were also impressed with this rack's user-friendliness, including a one-hand tilt release mechanism at the end of the main support arm that can be used with bikes loaded. It comes with a long noose-style cable lock and hitch pin lock that secures both the rack and the bikes it carries.
The MonoRail appears very well made with a sturdy metal receiver arm, main support arm, and bike trays. However, there is a fair amount of plastic in its construction, including both the folding front wheel and pivoting rear wheel trays, which could pose durability issues if used carelessly. It also employs a standard threaded hitch pin to attach the rack to receiver on your vehicle. Although this works just fine, it's far less user-friendly than the tool-free tightening and locking designs found on some of the competition. Regardless, we feel the MonoRail is an excellent rack that performs above its asking price.

I am planning on selling my truck this year. It has been my main vehicle for getting me and my bike to everywhere to ride but the market is to good not to. I also have a Subaru WRX that I will transition to my daily. I was planning on having a trailer receiver installed so I could mount a bike rack. 

This is where I need help. There are so many out there I have no idea which ones are decent or not. I would rather not get one from amazon because the reviews all seem..off. What are you experiences with rack and what do you recommend? Also! what diameter receiver? Thanks!

Bike Rack Recommendations

 I used to take the rack off each time I used it, but the threaded bolt makes it difficult to constantly take on and off, so it is on for now. Hopefully nobody steals it, because I can't find hardened locks for the security bolts. In addition to this, the included security loop is pretty flimsy.

 I admit this was user error, since I didn't put the wheel hook right next to the fork, but the instructions don't point this out, which is pretty darn important when carrying expensive bikes at (potentially) highway speeds.  * The security is lacking, and the security locks and bolts aren't standard (You won't be able to find better locks at hardware stores like Ace Hardware). If I could buy a version with hardened locks with a security torx trailer bolt, I would.  ** This rack has plastic locks with metal internals, but these look delicate and don't appear hardened

I've got analysis paralysis while trying to hunt for a hitch mounted bike rack.  I've got a long and slack full sus bike with a wheelbase just over 48", which seems to be the limit of some popular racks.  I live in an apartment and don't ride daily, so the rack won't be living on the car, so it will be removed and stored more frequently than I'd like.  Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with a tray style hitch rack that is easy to store, fits a modern long bike, and isn't a 1Up rack (living in Canada, it's too hard to get and too expensive...not to mention the wait).

Just looking for a single or even double hitch bike rack. Everything I’m seeing is either giant and costs $1500 or tiny and flimsy looking with bad reviews. A basic but name brand solution would be awesome if y’all know of any.

Is there a decent hitch bike rack that doesn’t cost a thousand dollars?

 My only concern is the two locks. There is one for the hitch pin and one used to secure the bike cable. They do not look solid at all, I bet I could knock them off with a hammer. Other than that, this is a great rack and I'm very happy with it
