The 82 is a much better turntable than the 81—well worth the $50-100ish more you’d pay including the preamp.

If your budget is super tight you can get by with the Pyle PP444. If you can spend a little more, the ART DJ Pre II is great for the money.

The Orbit Basic base model doesn’t have a phono preamp, so you’d need to add one of those. No big deal though… just grab a Pyle PP444 for like $15. Another option that includes the phono preamp would be the Audio-Technica LPW30TK. That’s $250 and has a better cartridge (with a better upgrade path) than what comes on the Orbit Basic.

Plus it has the Ortofon OM10 cartridge that is just as good as the newer version 2M Red. Pass on the older RT80 and RT81 that lack the new speed sensor. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. Then if not using an amp or receiver or powered speakers with a built in phono preamp you could start with a $13 Pyle PP444 phono preamp and upgrade later or start with a better $65 Art DJ Pre II or $99 iFi Zen Air Phono.

Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. Then if you will not be using the RT82 with an amp or receiver or powered speakers with a built in phono preamp via the phono input and you are low on budget you could start the at $13 Pyle PP444 that is around the same quailty as the basic phono premap built in to the RT81.

I'm using this preamp to connect my turntable to my Sonos system via a Sonos Port. It seamlessly allows me to listen to my record collection anywhere in my house, on any of my Sonos speakers. For this, it is perfect.
