I asked the store employee for any alternative carry-on backpacks, but he told me that with my condition I’m sh*t out of luck and that I’ll have to settle for a larger pack for those perks. So I tried out the Atmos AG 50 and the Gregory Katmai 55, which distributed the weight quite nicely (filled the pack with 15KG and no pain or pressure on the shoulders).

I got some quilts from Hammock Gear back in October and the amount of space I've saved with those alone is impressive. Not longer after getting the quilts I upgraded my bag to a Osprey Atmos 50. I typically stay out for one to two nights but I still have plenty of room in my pack for more food if I wanted to stay out longer. My pack typically comes in anywhere from 20-25 lbs.

The frame is tall enough to actually transfer the load, the Roebic (sp?) / Spectra combination material is extremely durable--far superior to a typical Dyneema material, and the rest of the pack is very functional as well (I actually love the zipper back which is a two way zipper so if one breaks you still have the other one to see and access all your gear without pulling it out).
