There's no 4k video recording, which is a bit annoying, and even 1080p video is capped at 30 frames per second. Finally, there's a 16 megapixel front camera, which clicks nice selfies both indoors and outdoors

 The addition of 120hz high refresh rate screen coupled with the 240hz touch sampling rate also makes this phone quite responsive in day to day use and helps in providing a smoother gaming experience. The refresh rate itself is variable, switching between 60 90 and 120 Hertz, thus ensuring better battery life. Speaking of battery life, it's very good, mainly due to a large 5000 mah cell, I was able to get two days worth of use out of it with light usage and around 8 hours of screen on time. With 120 hertz refresh rate enabled, The bundled 33 watt Super Wolf charger can quickly top of the phone from zero to 50 in around half an hour, while a full charge took approximately 55 minutes

* Oneplus was born, always saying how independent they were and every issue was wiped away by Oneplus and some diehard fans as "growing pains".
* Criticism aside, they did some great things. Good hardware dor a fantastic price, and after the Cyanogen OS disaster constant and fast updates with a clean OS.
* Then they started on a path that was planned from the start: Increasing prices for their phones. They were still less expensive, but not even close to what happened with the ultra-cheap Oneplus 1.
* At the same time, Oneplus phones have *always* been rebranded Oppo phones, which kept development costs to an absolute minimum.
* Their phones got more and more expensive. While the Oneplus 1 was hundreds of dollars cheaper and offered basically the same as the high-end competition, more recent models often price-matched the offerings from the likes of Samsung (after those got cheaper a few months in) and could never quite compete on all fronts (especially camera).
* At the same time OnePlus's cheaper flagship model was more and more gimped.
* Then they started flooding the market with cheaper models (also rebranded Oppo phones), updates were only coming every two months at best and the OS got buggier and buggier.
* Now they're officially merging with Oppo (although they always were a subdivision, even sharing the same office space).
* And I'm pretty sure they didn't really care for Oxygen OS for a while now since it's an open secret that they will switch to Oppos ColorOS.

Interesting to read about OnePlus 7 devices getting slow updates and been buggy / missing features when they finally do arrive. The same happened with the OnePlus 5T and the Android 10 update early last year. Pretty sure that took many months for a fixed update to come out.

That said I still really like my OnePlus 5T, however I did purchase it to run LineageOS, which has done since I purchased the phone in 2018.

OnePlus 7 Pro got android 11 and ever since has been unable to reliably call anyone unless you use speakerphone or Bluetooth. This bug has been known since January and reported by hundreds of people. The phone literally fails to be a phone. A full system reset does not fix it. Reflashing the full 2GB firmware does not fix it. They apparently will never fix it.

I've never been forced to unlock the bootloader and install LineageOS just to have a functional phone again. This is outrageous....

Oneplus is currently most anti consumer they have ever been but they are also currently the most profitable they have ever been. So its a strange situation. Do you keep being anti consumer and keep the profits rolling for the near future or try to garner back some of the lost goodwill and try to repair the longer term brand image in exchange?

It's just too bad. I used to love OnePlus. Got so many family members to buy as well. Now I'm slowly making them all buy Samsung instead.

I would gladly have paid more for a OnePlus than a Samsung. It was never about the money for me. I was soo exited for the 8 Pro. Only to fine out it's premium panel was terrible. My guess is Apple and Samsung keeps all the good OLEDs and OP etc. can buy All the ones with shitty colors on low brightness for cheap.

I've loved (almost) all my Oneplus phones - I had the Oneplus One which was great.

The 3T was most likely the best phone I've ever owned.

My current Oneplus 7 Pro (which I got as a work phone) is good, but I'm dissapointed by the screen, in particular the glass. I normally take very good care of my phone, but my OP7P has gotten some very deep scratches in the glass, the ones you can feel on your fingertip when swiping across the screen.

I appreciated Oneplus for what it was - enthusiast specs for budget prices, and I'm not mad that they're increasing prices. It's very obvious they must've run with some razor-thin margins or, more likely, run at a loss to get market share.

But it's very simple - with prices increasing, if a flagship Oneplus phone costs the same as a Samsung phone - I'll take the much better camera and the actually-delivered-upon software support of the Samsung phone. That's a no-brainer really.

I really enjoyed my time with the 7T. But after I experienced the super slow buggy updates and poor cameras I decided to move on. Got a good deal on a Pixel 5 and I'm enjoying it so far. I'll probably switch to iPhone if they add 120hz and a smaller notch this year.

I was never a fan of their skin. What I liked was quick and easy access to root/bl unlock. Their skin was on each OP phone I ever owned for maybe a few hours at most.

I remember how excited I was to get an invite to purchase the OnePlus One. I felt like I was part of an exclusive club that only tech YouTubers like MKBHD and a select few others were a part of. I had only bought an iPhone 5S a week before I got the invite. Returned the iPhone and purchased the Oneplus One. 

The packaging for the phone was awesome, very different to how everyone else was doing it at the time if I remember correctly. The back of the phone in sandstone felt amazing. I had the phone for just over a year I think and ended up getting something else and selling it for barely any loss. 

The only other OnePlus devices I’ve owned have been the OnePlus 3T and the 7 Pro. I guess I’m lucky that I missed their sharp decline, as from the devices I owned, I had no issues. The 7 Pro is actually one of my all-time favourite devices I’ve ever owned, up there with the HTC One M7 and the iPhone 6S Plus. 

I remember seeing “This is E”’s video on why OnePlus (or any enthusiast brand) would disappoint everyone, and I guess he was right.

Maybe it's an US thing? I have the EU version of OnePlus Nord, Android 11 Update came in February, everything runs smooth af, no battery life issues, no lagging, connectivity is excellent. Security update is as of May 2021.

Goodbye and good riddence IMHO.  My 8 Pro is lying in a drawer because it's too unreliable to use.  I don't want or need a phone that just randomly reboots in the middle of a phone call.  Or one that doesn't save photos.

I honestly didn't think I'd ever be writing this, but MIUI 12.5 on my Mi 10T Pro is lightyears ahead of OxygenOS.  It's much, much faster and infinitely more stable.

They removed bloatware like Facebook apps after negative reviews for the latest devices. Updates arrive in time for the 8 and 9 series, at least bi-monthly. My 8 pro got 2 updates in the last two months...

That's crazy. Always wanted a OnePlus phone but always read bad things about updates. So just stayed away.
