I don't quite see why so many folks rate this so high.

 Ice cream keeps (but the consistency sucks), but just remember frozen yogurt has to be pretty much eaten right away because it freezes into a rock and never reaches the same consistency even with thawing. Tips: You must freeze the container beforehand and make sure you put in your ingredients and ice immediately because this setup loses temperature fast and after 30 minutes of churning, you might as well just call it quits..

 But again, you get what you pay for.  Third, you can't store it in the aluminum bin. You either eat it right away (if it's froyo) or find some separate container (Glad containers work well) to store them in. The stupid plastic knob they give you falls off period

 The plastic "lid" they give you doesn't fit on the bucket. Well, my first time making froyo, I didn't know how huge of a batch it was going to make and almost ate myself to death--but not complaining, in terms of froyo, the consistency made from this ice cream maker was PERFECT. Ice cream on the other hand has a weird icy consistency--not creamy. I'm still toying with recipes to figure out a better one

  The whole ice and salt thing is a real pain to be honest. It uses SO much ice (I empty out my entire ice maker for one batch) and SO much salt. I am pretty sure that it would have been cheaper in the long run to buy the more expensive, no-ice machines like Cuisinart. I guess you get what you pay for, but I think it'll be worth it for us to fork up the extra money for one of the higher-end machines that don't require ice

Love It while it lasted

I didn't get to use this because after reading the instruction manual, it stated that you should expect to use 1 to 2 bags of ice for a single batch of ice cream. I don't have easy access or ability to store that much ice at one time (except in the winter I suppose, and while I like ice cream any time of year, I want to make some NOW since I have a surplus of goat milk). Purchasing bags of ice seems a bit crazy to me, but also the cost of that much ice alone would be more than a pint of Ben & Jerry's.  Really wanted to use it and like it as there are all sorts of stellar reviews, but unfortunately it just can't work for me

 The outer plastic bucket has a metal handle attached to it, and that metal handle has a plastic grip. To make ice cream you need to add salt to ice, when the salt mixes with the ice it creates salt water. The saltwater when dumped from the bucket will hit the metal carrying handle and get in between the plastic grip and the metal handle, if the salt water is not cleaned off it will rust the handle. Mine has lost its chrome under the plastic handle and rust being rust will spread like cancer to the rest of the handle

They could fix this problem by making the handle stainless steel but this is unlikely, so if you buy this MAKE SURE YOU RINSE the handle under water. Or if you want to just make it easy take the plastic grip off

 This problem is minor, it will not affect the ability of the ice cream maker to make ice cream but it might bother some of you so make sure you clean it after each use. I will include photos.

Almost Flawless

 You really do need to add water to the ice in the bucket. I'd go into a rant about thermodynamics and salted ice freezing to the side of the container without water, but, that's beyond the scope of this review. Just add the water as the directions indicate. 3

  In summary, this is a great little device which really can deliver great quality ice cream if you're willing to put in the time. As with anything, the ingredients determine the quality of the results. I can personally attest to the following taking about two hours total time and creating possibly the best strawberry ice cream I have ever had:  2 cups heavy cream 1 cup whole milk 1 cup turbinado raw cane sugar 1 can sweetened condensed milk 1 lbs fresh pureed strawberries  Enjoy!
