Verdict: High-end notebook with strong performance
Compared to its predecessor, namely the MSI GE66 10SFS, we found that the MSI GE66 12UHS is visually identical apart from the modified light bar. The keyboard and trackpad are still very good and score well with precise inputs as well as high build quality. Thanks to a new liquid metal cooling solut...
it's technically still a small PC though
I got the MSI Ge66 with a 3070. Zero regrets, as I needed something portable. I got my wife a razer blade 15 with a 2060 (huge discount) as well. Though she mostly just plays the Sims, but occasionally joins me in my games.
[Laptop] ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 (2021) Gaming Laptop, 15.6” 300Hz IPS Type FHD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB DDR4, 1TB PCIe SSD, Opti-Mechanical Per-Key RGB Keyboard, Windows 10, G533QS-DS76 - ASUS - $1999.99
Overall I feel it’s a great price for a laptop but it does come with sacrifices to reach its price point. For full power options with a mux look to Eluktronics, MSI Raider and Alienware! Just know there will be a $300+ premium for those depending on sales/discounts.
MSI GE66 Raider Review
That said, the GE66 Raider does a lot right, and if you want the raw power of a GeForce RTX 2080 Super in a reasonable-size package, it's hard to top. Its loud cooling fans notwithstanding, the MSI GE66 Raider is one of the best-performing 15-inch gaming laptops money can buy.
I’ve narrowed it to two I think. I don’t want to have to worry about thermals (plan to under volt as an extra level of comfort) and past that the best performance I can get. I need to keep it below 1700 as that’s already higher than planned and both below are on a pretty mega sale to keep that there. Option 1: MSI GE66 Raider.
I bought an MSI GE66 Raider 10sfs for Black Friday. My experience for the first two weeks were phenomenal. However, I have now come into a hole and can’t get out of it. I’ve tried everything, rolling back to old drivers, completely resetting to factory defaults, and even doing multiple tests.
A triumph for Intel, but a shrug from us
When it comes to raw power, it’s outperforming every Intel machine we tested last year. It’s outperforming the M1 Pro, and it’s close to the M1 Max on the real-world tasks we ran. But that comes with some heavy caveats
