I’ve been looking mainly at MadeIn [(This MadeIn Set)](https://madeincookware.com/products/the-knife-pair?variant=32764119351375) and Wusthof [This Wusthof Set](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/m/products/wusthof-classic-ikon-6-piece-in-drawer-knife-set/?pkey=cwusthof-knife-sets) I have read the wiki and know sets aren’t recommended, but love having a pretty collection of matching things to look at. I have heard not great things about Misen (the other direct to consumer brand that’s “in”), but have heard pretty good things about MadeIn knives. As a total novice, I am easily swayed by pretty looking things, and the price of the MadeIn knives is quite attractive to me. 

Here’s my filled out questionnaire:

**Style**  western, I believe. I like the feel of the current chef knife I use. 

**Steel** Stainless, after reading the Wiki.

**Handle** I believe western. 

**Grip** I use a pinch grip - I have small hands, but don’t find my current knife to be overly cumbersome (though it might be because I’m now just used to it)

**Length** 210mm|8.5 - currently using an 8inch chef’s knife as my every day. 

**Uses** I cook a TON. I cut a lot of meat (including trimming fat, skinning salmon/pork, deboning), and peel/chop a good amount of veggies on a daily basis.

**Care** I would like to send the knives away for service. 

**Budget** I would like to buy either a set (or a few knives) for under $750. I would like to keep it around $500, but am flexible knowing that if I buy something great and keep them in good shape and care for them, they’ll be a good long term investment. 

**Must Haves** From my current set (and thanks to the wiki here), I can identify that I currently mostly use my Chef’s knife as my every day knife, but also frequently use my utility/petty knife, and the mini Santuko, but less than I would I think normally since it is small. I don’t use the paring knife much. I would like a Nakiri as well, to use as my vegetable knife (unless a non mini santuko is the better way to go).

I have a Chinese cleaver, a boning knife and a bread knife already (it’s on its way out, but I understand bread knives can be considered more disposable).

Another Request for Recommendations for a Knife newbie

 Make sure not to machine wash this!!! No scrubbers, at least not to use the green side! I did notice that the knife isn't as sharp when cutting meats. The center of the knife seems to lose its sharpness quickly, but the end and the edge closer to the point are sharp as can be. I ordered the ceramic rod so I hope this will help keep the knife sharper a little longer. By the way, I did read reviews that the knife loses its sharpness rather quickly

 I had to get used to not using the knife like a pastry scraper because it is too small to carry things into a plate, unlike the Chinese Chef Knife. The blade is a piece of art.  I wanted to try something different, something westernized. This was my first non-Chinese knife and I have to say the weight of the knife is quite comfortable. The weight is balanced from handle to steel end. The rivets on the knife keep things from sticking and it is a wonderful edition

Great chef's knife but lacks edge

I'm a culinary student looking for a knife to spend the rest of my life and career with. I recently got a $500 scholarship from winning a culinary competition, and I've decided to invest that into culinary supplies. If the knife is worth it, I'm willing to put the full $500 into it.

I'm an active competitor in culinary competitions for my college, so I'll need a multi-use, sharp, and durable knife. During competition, my knife cuts have to be crisp, I mean no visible imperfections.

I currently use a Mercer knife given to me with my knife bag, and I maintain it pretty well, but I have a difficult time maneuvering with it. Additionally, the cuts are O.K. when it's sharpened, but it dulls ridiculously quickly and in my opinion is by no means competition quality.

(I know what you guys are thinking, and I thought it too. I just thought I wasn't sharpening with the blade right, but I began having my chef instructors approving of and helping me with honing and sharpening my blade. It still dulled quickly ): )

The blade is 10 inches and I'm a small, 5'4 female who is 100 pounds. I struggle to cut through vegetables such a carrots and potatoes due to the size of the knife, the way it dulls so quickly, and my own lack of strength.

Obviously I don't expect the knife to do the heavy lifting for me skill and strength-wise, but it'd be a whole lot easier and quicker to get tasks done with a reliable knife by my side.

<li>Steel? - I&#39;d prefer a non-reactive metal. Otherwise, my position on style remains the same for steel.</li>
<li>Handle? - I have small hands, so preferably a handle that&#39;s not too big.</li>
<li>Grip? - Pinch grip, preferably without the muscle spasms and tingles after I use it. That might be a technique issue, though.</li>
<li>Length? - I&#39;ve been using 10 inch knives for four years in the industry, competition practices, and class and I can use one, but I struggle with the size because it feels like I&#39;m wielding a saber rather than a tool. Preferably something that is below 10 inches and above 6 inches.</li>
<li>Uses? - The knife will be used for everything, as I hope to take it with me throughout my culinary career. At the moment however, I have been assigned dishes that require exact knife cuts and precision, such as filleting fish and salad elements.</li>

Looking for a Chef Knife for life. Any suggestions?

 I work in a kitchen and this knife is a good workhorse with both prep and line work. Takes an edge well. Keeps an edge well. I find myself doing a maintenance sharpening every week and a half or so with frequent honing

 At a week and a half it’s still cutting a tomato with no problems though. I might just be a bit OCD about my edges.

 It'S the full premium deal here. It weighs 8.4 ounces or 240 grams with the balance right behind the bolster got that transition there. It has a 2

 So just it cuts better, it's more nimble. It feels better same exact steel. It basically corrects my issues with the icon and i think it's about 30 cheaper, typically and then it's got harder steel than the mercer and a more comfortable handle for sure. So this is really, i think, the go-to workhorse german style knife in my kitchen right here

 The meridian is not as much as the icon, but close. This is the most comfortable german handle i have other than the icon here, so close, so it's very comfortable. They do a great job on the grind here, keeping it thin back here so that because, like even on the icon, if you can kind of see how the bevel gets wider as it gets to the heel. That'S because when it thins out down here - and they didn't do a good job of keeping it completely flat, so the meridian does that better, it's thinner at the spine

Hello I am a 17 year old who's currently going to colonary school. I'm in my 2nd year and I am currently in need of an all around knife. Fit for hacking and finely slicing.

My budget lies around 200-350$ for a knife that I can have for a couple of years without needing to switch it out, repairing it and so on. 

I have little to no prior experiences with knives. During the last couple of months i've spent multiple each day just hours scouting through the internet for a good starting knife. I've even bought some but returned them shortly after since they did not seem to fit me.
