Victorinox Fibrox 8" chef, 3" paring, Mercer Milenia 10" Curved bread knife. Don't waste your money on a block set as most are of lessor quality and you will not use most of the knives in it. A must is a good cutting board, polyethelene, wood. On the softer side so you don't destroy the edge on your knife.

After using for a few weeks I am very satisfied. It's still sharp and the thinner blade works great on everything I have tried it on.

Look at Victorinox Fibrox lineup, specifically the 8” chef’s knife. It’s like $30 and legitimately an excellent knife. Grandma taught me how to cook and I’ve done a lot of home cooking since she started me out on meatloaf at 5 years old. I’ve used Henkel and Wusthoff since then and got the Vic 10+ years ago at the advice of a chef friend.

Great everyday knife. Extremely sharp out of the box. It is a stamped blade and more fragile than a quality Japanese or German blade. But you can afford seven or eight of these knives for the price of one of those. By far the best chef's knife for the money.

Total cost will be around $55 for all three combined, and you will be set for life. Victorinox chefs knives are standard among chefs as a true workhorse knife. Keep them sharp, dont put them in the dish washer, and enjoy the massive improvement to your life.

This is indeed a SHARP knife. I wanted to try it out as soon as I got it so I was prewashing it in the sink and sliced my finger nicely - so be aware that this is "well-sharpened" upon arrival.
