If you're particular about sound quality, it may be best to pair a set of bookshelf-style speakers with your computer. We think the Mackie Studio Monitor CR4BT is the perfect bookshelf/computer crossover. First off, these speakers sound fantastic. The bass is powerful yet controlled and constrained, and the mid and treble ranges are crystal clear and enjoy great separation, allowing you to appreciate every bit of even the most complex melodies. Secondly, the design of these speakers lends them well to desktop arrangements. The ability to change which speaker is the left and right allows for correct orientation regardless of where your outlet happens to be. Multiple included accessories allow you to connect via your computer's headphone jack, through an RCA output, or via Bluetooth.
The obvious disadvantages of the Mackie Studio Monitor CR4BT are the cost and the size. The premium sound quality does come at a relatively premium price.  Again, I did not wish to give this 3 stars, in fact, my conflicting feelings about it is what kept me from giving it 2 stars. When it works it is phenomenal, the base and the clarity is unique and so gratifying. But, I would like to get them same result without having to have my phone completely stationary and right next to the speaker. I am very disappointing

 Even when I am within 3 feet of the speaker the music cuts in and out, as if it is out of range. I have tried every trick in the book in order to get the connection between the speaker and my phone to be strong, and nothing has prevailed. It is constantly going in and out unless I leave my phone right next to it. For $200 i definitely would have expected and liked more than that

Amazing sound WHEN IT WORKS :(

 Paperweights now. Time to upgrade anyway… Audioengine or Kanto…  These were plenty loud, I had them hooked up to my turntable and would connect appletv via Bluetooth for music and movies. Worked well but I turned them on yesterday and the light comes on but no sound from any of the inputs. Passive speakers could potentially last decades but now I have this powered (active) speaker that does nothing

Quit working after 5 years.

 I use them through a m-audio USB interface for audio editing. The sound quality is clear and crisp, to be fair, but range is poor. I'm just not hearing a delightful sound.  I'm really at a loss because these are supposed to be decent quality monitors, yet my half broken, 15 year old Logitech computer speakers, 3 piece incl 10" woofer, sound arguably better (not clearer though)

 Bluetooth in the speakers is bad and if your WiFi is in the same room interference will happen. They sound best when connected directly. In the end would not recommend these monitors even though they are great for the price (initially).

Terrible component quality, good sound for the money until they break down.

 Then one morning went to turn them on and so sound would comet. The light turned on indicating the speakers were on. Tried playing music through bluetooth, aux input on front, and 1/4" input on back with none of them working. I really liked them when they worked so sad they stoped

Sounded Great!...for two weeks

 I connected to my Audio Technica turntable, and various iPhones and was quite pleased... until they quit working

 I was outside of the 1 year Warranty with Mackie and now need to take to a service center. Great speakers, disappointed with Mackie Warranty. I have read similar reviews with the same problem.

 I chose these Mackie speakers (w/ the larger 5" drivers) as I've had previous experience with sound reinforcement gear and recognized the brand. These speakers and my Edifier speakers (also purchased from Amazon) are connected via the PCs' 3.5mm audio jack.  My opinion: These are large speakers and are in price range where I expected good performance, especially good base performance

 These speakers definitely fall short on that. I'd classify the sound quality as average, but for the size and price of the units, they should perform above average. My Edifier speakers (R1700BT) were cheaper and are smaller, yet they produce considerably better sound. The Edifiers have a smaller bass driver (4" vs

 It has been like that I believe since I originally purchased the speakers, so it is nothing new. At higher volumes it may be more annoying, but it wasn't sufficiently bothersome to send the units backs.  I really wanted to like these Mackie speakers, but the quality just isn't there. Additionally, there is no way to justify the price when significantly cheaper speakers are capable of producing significantly better sound

Your money is better spent elsewhere

 I use them with a Scarlet USB DAC interface hooked to my Mac. I also appreciate the inclusion of bluetooth for occasions where connecting a phone or tablet might be useful.  The Mackie CR5BT is a great Studio Monitor for home use. I would not compare these to high end Monitors you see in a professional recording studio, but they will outperform almost any set of dedicated computer speakers

  I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their computer audio experience, or putting together a small home studio. You won't be disappointed!

 Music, movies, and gaming all sound rich, loud, and distortion free.  This speakers also look very nice on your desk. The design is clean and the cabinets are made from wood, not plastic. Wood cabinets sound better to my ears than plastic, so I appreciate Mackie using quality materials in these Monitors

 Even without adding a subwoofer, the frequency response is very good. Bass is deep and full, without overpowering and the highs are clean and crisp, without being overly bright.  One thing with mentioning, these speakers are designed to have a flat, neutral response. This means that they try and produce sound as close to the original recording as possible

Perfect home studio or computer speaker monitors!

 Best sound for the buck! Just don’t expect quality BlueTooth.  Also, there are reports of the L/R switch going bad. My advice is to set it how you want it, then don’t touch it. And always turn your speakers off when not using them so the internal amp and components aren’t stating hot

I bought the 5” version. These monitor housings are a little smaller than I thought they would be, but the sound they produce is quite good even using unbalanced RCA inputs. Highs are clear and articulate, lows are punchy and deep without being obnoxious. The sound produced is very clear and correct - great reference sound when mixing and mastering!  Very impressed with just how loud, clear, tight, and correct the sound is from these little things

Great Reference Sound, Compact Package

At this point I dont see myself ever buying another Mackie product. initially I was very happy with the sound quality of these monitors, but after a little over a year of light use the first set I bought crapped the bed. The left channel just went out. I called Mackie and their customer service was very kind to replace them even though they were out of warranty

 After a few months using the replacements the I started to notice a bit of crackling when bass would hit. The crackling got worse over the next few weeks and eventually got to a point that on every bass hit it sounds like the woofer is being violently ripped out. At this point I dont want to have to deal with constantly replacing the product, so I just took it as a lesson learned. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was the customer service experience, but ideally I should never have to contact customer service when I buy a quality product
