These Speakers Look Pretty Decent, But Super Short Cords Make Arranging Difficult-But For $10 It Could Be Worse -Grade C!

Updated: Initially, the speakers were too bassy. These speakers were for my computer. I looked for an equalizer software app for the computer, so I could adjust the treble up. Realtek Audio is supposed to be on Windows 10 but I didn't have it, so I downloaded it

 Didn't expect these to be great, not even good, considering the price by I was surprised by just how cheap they sound. I'm guessing there is a scrawny little one inch speaker inside each enclosure. If you only have one PC (or one set of speakers) don't get these because you will be replacing them after a week or two. I'm only keeping them because hooking them up and routing the wires was enough work that it's not worth it to get another cheap set just to learn they don't sound any better

Upgrade Pick

 I chose these Mackie speakers (w/ the larger 5" drivers) as I've had previous experience with sound reinforcement gear and recognized the brand. These speakers and my Edifier speakers (also purchased from Amazon) are connected via the PCs' 3.5mm audio jack.  My opinion: These are large speakers and are in price range where I expected good performance, especially good base performance

 These speakers definitely fall short on that. I'd classify the sound quality as average, but for the size and price of the units, they should perform above average. My Edifier speakers (R1700BT) were cheaper and are smaller, yet they produce considerably better sound. The Edifiers have a smaller bass driver (4" vs

 It has been like that I believe since I originally purchased the speakers, so it is nothing new. At higher volumes it may be more annoying, but it wasn't sufficiently bothersome to send the units backs.  I really wanted to like these Mackie speakers, but the quality just isn't there. Additionally, there is no way to justify the price when significantly cheaper speakers are capable of producing significantly better sound

Your money is better spent elsewhere

 Again, I did not wish to give this 3 stars, in fact, my conflicting feelings about it is what kept me from giving it 2 stars. When it works it is phenomenal, the base and the clarity is unique and so gratifying. But, I would like to get them same result without having to have my phone completely stationary and right next to the speaker. I am very disappointing

 Even when I am within 3 feet of the speaker the music cuts in and out, as if it is out of range. I have tried every trick in the book in order to get the connection between the speaker and my phone to be strong, and nothing has prevailed. It is constantly going in and out unless I leave my phone right next to it. For $200 i definitely would have expected and liked more than that

Amazing sound WHEN IT WORKS :(

 Bluetooth in the speakers is bad and if your WiFi is in the same room interference will happen. They sound best when connected directly. In the end would not recommend these monitors even though they are great for the price (initially).

Terrible component quality, good sound for the money until they break down.

 Paperweights now. Time to upgrade anyway… Audioengine or Kanto…  These were plenty loud, I had them hooked up to my turntable and would connect appletv via Bluetooth for music and movies. Worked well but I turned them on yesterday and the light comes on but no sound from any of the inputs. Passive speakers could potentially last decades but now I have this powered (active) speaker that does nothing

Quit working after 5 years.

At this point I dont see myself ever buying another Mackie product. initially I was very happy with the sound quality of these monitors, but after a little over a year of light use the first set I bought crapped the bed. The left channel just went out. I called Mackie and their customer service was very kind to replace them even though they were out of warranty

 After a few months using the replacements the I started to notice a bit of crackling when bass would hit. The crackling got worse over the next few weeks and eventually got to a point that on every bass hit it sounds like the woofer is being violently ripped out. At this point I dont want to have to deal with constantly replacing the product, so I just took it as a lesson learned. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was the customer service experience, but ideally I should never have to contact customer service when I buy a quality product

I really wanted to love these

 I use them with a Scarlet USB DAC interface hooked to my Mac. I also appreciate the inclusion of bluetooth for occasions where connecting a phone or tablet might be useful.  The Mackie CR5BT is a great Studio Monitor for home use. I would not compare these to high end Monitors you see in a professional recording studio, but they will outperform almost any set of dedicated computer speakers

  I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their computer audio experience, or putting together a small home studio. You won't be disappointed!

 Music, movies, and gaming all sound rich, loud, and distortion free.  This speakers also look very nice on your desk. The design is clean and the cabinets are made from wood, not plastic. Wood cabinets sound better to my ears than plastic, so I appreciate Mackie using quality materials in these Monitors

 Even without adding a subwoofer, the frequency response is very good. Bass is deep and full, without overpowering and the highs are clean and crisp, without being overly bright.  One thing with mentioning, these speakers are designed to have a flat, neutral response. This means that they try and produce sound as close to the original recording as possible

Perfect home studio or computer speaker monitors!

 That's a shame. I went out and bought two Yamaha HS7 studio monitors and after listening to these, using the PreSonus Studio 26C interface (bypasses the audio card on my board), these Mackie CR4BT speakers seem like toys.  All I am saying is buyer beware. Even if you want them for game play, at higher volumes and +bass ranges, you may experience the same issues as I did

ORIGINAL REVIEW: It's been a very long time since I worked with Mackie reference monitors, having used them almost exclusively in the late-90s through the new millennium while working at a recording studio. So, after a disastrous go with a set of Logitech Z337 computer speakers, I decided to go with a different brand. During research, I came across the Mackie CR4BT studio monitors with Bluetooth and dang! Now those are speakers! Easy to setup and the 4" size are not too big for a desk. I'm an editor, so I have an 8-foot desk with room to spare, but even on a regular sized desk, they'd fit (maybe)

 You can always place them on a shelf over your workstation.  Right now, as I type this, the glorious sounds of Alice Coltrane are flowing through these Mackies..

  For those who have seen pics of these speakers, don't let the green or blue circles around the tweeter and mid-range fool you. They do not light up, but the green is a nice demarcation separating what would otherwise be black on black. The volume button on the front and the Bluetooth logo (if you get the Bluetooth model) do light up green though, in case you're wondering.  To test the speakers, I looked up a few good songs with decent balance, space, attack and decay, rhythm, timing, mid-range quality and treble quality, dynamic range, bass control, detail, stereo focus, etc
