My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

Look for a thinkpad x240-x260 on eBay and try to haggle to get a bit of a better deal. You get a compact machine that will be great for Linux, web browsing, and most other none heavy uses.

Good used laptop for the money

I got this laptop (X240) two weeks ago, and I was hesitant to buy a used laptop instead of a new one, but the same model new was more than twice the price so I took the risk. The same day I received it I upgraded the Windows 10 (or whatever) preinstalled to check it, but the battery had like 2% char...

I quite like the x240's form factor but think the larger ThinkPad series are okay as well. The TrackPoint is a must though. Especially, I am looking for a model that is not brand new, so I can buy it used at a reasonable price. I hope you have a few tips for me which models are worth a closer look for me.

Lenovo Thinkpad, you can't go wrong. I'm partial to the T series which I've been using for a long time. This is a general recommendation, if you start talking GPUs than you need to consider form factor for cooling etc...

Nice little laptop

Arrived quickly and in good condition. Setup was pretty simple. Love the fingerprint recognition & the size of the keys. Only drawback is the battery doesn’t last more than a few hours with continuous use, but it works for our purposes.
