My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

Lenovo Thinkpad, you can't go wrong. I'm partial to the T series which I've been using for a long time. This is a general recommendation, if you start talking GPUs than you need to consider form factor for cooling etc...

I’d go for T470 or T480 (hard to get in this price range), as these already have a USB type C port, which recently is becoming the main port of modern electronics. Both are quite expandable when it comes to ram and hard drives.

My old school laptop’s (Lenovo thinkpad T470s) screen clunked out on me. Next year I plan on start my master’s program so I need a laptop that’ll perform well with excel and other office similar tasks (I assume that isn’t hard to find).
