A used work station like a lenovo thinkpad from the p range or a HP zbook no more than a few years old and get the best spec you can find.

Awesome little booger.

Hated that it was sold as an XP machine but came with 7. DVD drive was defective. Seller replaced it immediately. Parts are easy to access. Machine seems substantial but what do you expect from IBM. I bought used one. New one likely to be a good deal.

Always match the ram in a machine you are selling!

Machine was in decent shape but mixmatching the ram now means i cant run dual channel memory and in order to fix this problem I'm going to have to take the entire laptop apart because their memory is underneath the keyboard D; ! !

Is the t61 a good choice for programming?

Honestly, if you're going for a classic thinkpad you can do work on, try to get a T400 (a T60p could also be an option because of that amazing screen, however ram wise it can only do 3.5gb so that's something to keep in mind). If you'd like to compare the specs of these machines in detail take a look at thinkwiki. You could also look into the R400 or T410 since I've found pretty good deals on both. T420 onwards it starts getting a bit more pricey.

For that price they're worth it however you can also find 30 series ThinkPads for the same price and that point you might as well skip the 20 series models and go straight for a 30 series model. 30 series ThinkPads (X230, T430, T530, W530) are sold at about the same price of the 20 series models but are one generation newer (3000 series CPU instead of 2000 series) and introduce USB 3.0 (20 series models only have it on the expensive i7 motherboards...).

Very Clean Laptop, prompt shipping

Very clean t410. Much better condition than I was expecting. Actually had a 1440x900 display, than the 1280x800 listed. Also Nvidia dedicated graphics. Battery is in decent shape for its age (1.5 hour charge), will be purchasing a larger 9 cell battery to replace. Prompt Shipping. No complaints here...
