Lenovo ThinkPad T14

Different in name but otherwise the same: The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 is only a small update of the ThinkPad T490. There are indeed some detail improvements, but overall, the question of whether it makes sense arises.

I have yet to see a Ryzen productivity beast laptop for normal people in anything larger than 14" like the Thinkpad T14. Gaming laptops are great but I have absolutely NO use for a dGPU. All I do on my laptop is trade stocks with TD Think or Swim, WeBull, etc. and my trading style favors multi-threaded CPU performance (Slack, trading platforms, plus like 30 tabs open and need to rapidly flip back/forth).

USED Lenovo ThinkPad T14 with Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U / 2x 8 GB ram / 256 SSD for \~ 1090 USD. NEW DELL XPS 7590 with i7- 9750H / 16GB ram / 512GB SSD / GTX 1650 for \~1270 USD. As said what i value most is:. \-Being futureproof as script complexity and data science / machine learning things kick in.

She's only gonna be using it for coursework, programming and media (probably). First option: Lenovo Thinkpad T14 AMD (Ryzen 5 4650U, 8GB, 128GB SSD, 400-nit low power panel). Probably the better option here for a student/ normal user.

I have decides to invest 1000€ (100€ up or down is fine) into a laptop that can handle average programing tasks (i do FE development mostly). So far the best option that I found is the thinkpad T14 (in the us so id have to have some one bring it to me as I live in europe). It fits the price range (currently on discount) with 16gb of ram, a lower power consumption 400nit screen, 256gb of storage and the ryzen 7 amd cpu.

Lenovo Thinkpads are great for Linux. Older used ones are cheap and powerful enough for most things, but generally have bad battery life even if you replace the battery. If you want a new one and have money to spend, the Thinkpad X1 is fantastic; just don’t pay full price for it because MSRP is way too high and there are frequent sales for 50% or more off. The Thinkpad T14 is good if you only need power and don’t care about the shitty trackpad and screen.
