Dear Lenovo (aka I can't recommend Thinkpad anymore.)

It’s not easy trusting a brand or a product especially nowadays when they keep selling in publicity those perfect products in the best situation and so on. It’s been 3 weeks more or less now since I’m looking for a new laptop especially a mobile workstation and I reduced the list to 2 brand dell precision series and Lenovo Thinkpad p1 gen 4/ p15 gen 2 with a preference for Lenovo.

Trying to figure out which P series to buy

You should be choosing between three models: P15, P17, and P1 Gen 4. Out of them, I'd say the P1 Gen 4 is easily the best choice on account of its 16:10 display and lighter chassis. However, you can't buy it yet, so wait a bit for it to release and come down in price. Lenovo has a shitty pricing scheme where a new model will be priced extremely high and then come down in a few weeks.

Help looking for laptop

Lenovo has a great Linux support, so something like Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 4 or X1 Extreme Gen 3 should fit. If you can live with 4/8, I'd go with Framework laptop - it has 3:2 screen, very repairable and extendable and also has good Linux support (just avoid vPro wifi module).

Choosing a Thinkpad -- T vs P series

For your tasks, you should certainly stay with the P- type of Thinkpads. In fact, the Lenovo Thinkpad P1 G4 has been announced but, to my surprise, it does not support Quadro graphics. My guess is that Lenovo cannot cool it adequately. It does support Xeon processors, however and up to 64 GB of memory.

I returned my X1 Extreme Gen 4

Lenovo's Thinkpad team seems not to really know how to build laptops with strong GPUs that don't have weird throttling or cooling problems. The P1 4 / X1E 4 isn't really especially thin compared to a lot of modern gaming laptops, even ones with higher component TDPs, and yet they've got these throttling issues. Setting aside these thin machines, they've also had the same issues with the fatter models like the P15/P17/T15g and earlier.
