I'd give this one a chance: [**Lenovo ThinkBook - overkill for your needs but you can consider it future proof: 45W I5 processor, 4 GB graphics card, bright display with good color coverage, big PCIe SSD, ~5H battery life, good peripheral port selection: 1 X USB-C 3.2, 2 X USB 3.1, 1 X LAN, SD card reader, and a Backlit Chiclet keyboard, Spill resistant. Hope I helped!.

A solid, affordable business notebook
It averaged 57fps on Overwatch’s Ultra settings at 1080p (to the XPS’s 48 and the ZenBook’s 54). And while it chugged through Shadow of the Tomb Raider (lowest settings, native) at just 22fps, it achieved a more impressive 34fps at 1080p, which is closer to the MacBook Air (38fps) than it is to the XPS (22fps), and it also beats the ZenBook (30fps). Overall, these results are mixed, but the ThinkBook is certainly holding its own among more expensive and higher-specced Windows competitors

Long time ThinkPad owner, first ThinkBook purchase
I also drew the short straw and wound up with a unit having the lesser quality IPS display. Apparently Lenovo had two suppliers for the 14" FHD screen, with one producing a significantly brighter unit, yet both configurations billed as 250nit. No way to know which screen would be in the computer until you open the box.

China hires over 100 TSMC engineers in push for chip leadership
I am typing this reply from a Lenovo Thinkbook 14-IIL, that has a 10nm CPU, also known by its codename Ice Lake. It's not a desktop CPU, it's a mobile CPU, but it's enough to counter your claim that "Intel doesn't yet have 10nm".
