Page turns are much faster with Kobo's eBooks. As you can see I mean it's much faster.

The pages are shorter but it's just a quick tap of the thumb to flip pages, I feel like I read pretty fast like this and not limited by the small screen. It's so easy to use one-handed and being so light doesn't get fatiguing.

How long does it take to turn pages on a newer ereader?

If your budget is lower then you're probably best off finding a used Kindle or something, which should perform okay (I can only really speak for the last-gen Kobo Glo HD, which I never had any complaints with). E-ink technology moves pretty slow, so there aren't very many big innovations (the latest one is probably colour).
