Size

Interested in Forma and Oasis 3. Concerned about ergonomics and lighting.

I was coming from a 6 inch Kobo Glo Hd, and 8 inches are so much better. It gets closer to the physical size of a paperback, which is kind of a "natural size" we are used to read on. Also, if you care about it, 8 inches starts to be decent to read PDF files, although not as good as 10 inches and above. I would say that budget and extreme portability are the only reason to read on a 6 inch device, everything else is much better on 8 inches

E.reader for a philosophy student ?

3' size, my suggestion will be to go for Boox Note 3. Even though Note air is also a great option in that size, I won't recommend it for your use case because you said you will use it on the go a lot.

Battery Life

Excellent upgrade for me

Another minor complaint: I'd like a bit longer battery life. I would say a 2-3 hours of reading with the light at 40% brings down the battery about 10% or so. The battery seems to drain a couple percent a day if you put it into sleep mode instead of turning it off. Still, these are minor issues, this device has helped me minimize my life a lot, getting rid of hundreds of paper books in the past year, that alone might be worth it!

I now carry only this, not a couple of paperbacks, a notebook and a pen. The battery life is phenomenal! I read 3-4 hours a day 5 days a week with frequent interruptions (work, what can you do?) so it often powers off and the battery is still 50%-60% at the end of the week! The ability to change the screen lighting makes it easy on the eyes, the bluetooth connection works well with ear buds but I've only been able to bluetooth tether it to my phone once. The Wi-Fi tether works like a champ every time. My only "complaints" are: 1) setting up the google play store (for the nook and Kindle apps) is frustrating if you don't, as I did not, read the instructions (the reboot is, in fact, necessary!) 2) Every time I would tether the device the location would automatically turn on (this has been alleviated with the latest update but contrary to the update notes, location is NOT turned off by default
