I was coming from a 6 inch Kobo Glo Hd, and 8 inches are so much better. It gets closer to the physical size of a paperback, which is kind of a "natural size" we are used to read on. Also, if you care about it, 8 inches starts to be decent to read PDF files, although not as good as 10 inches and above. I would say that budget and extreme portability are the only reason to read on a 6 inch device, everything else is much better on 8 inches

I have an oasis 3 and a few more readers from 4.3" to 13.3".   
But I don't own a forma (or used one), so take my reply with a pinch of salt.

1. Oasis 3 is very light and ergonomic (the best from my collection of \~14 ereaders). Albeit with aluminium body it's quite slippery if not supported properly in your palm. It gets cold also.  
2. Oasis 3 has a nice warm light. But amazon didn't make a perfect job of balancing it, if you go deep (very dim) it gets a bit off in the blue-gold balance. Nothing major though.
3. I have other 8" readers (onyx nova 3 & boyue mars), the size difference is there and I think that 7" is the max that you can use one handed for hours without any issue. 8" tend to be a bit too large for that kind of use. Naturally, that varies ALOT with hand-size and physical condition. On the other hand, 8"ers have quite a bit more of screen estate to use.

For high volume reading with the device in your hand, the Xiaomi Inkpalm is brilliant. It’s the lightest ereader, has page turn buttons and is very ergonomic. I read a couple of books a week on mine. 

Converting it to English requires a bit of technical ability though.

Alternatively you could have a larger android reader e.g. Boox in a stand and use a remote page turner for excellent ergonomics and no weight issues.

Soooo here we are. I have both. And no case is definitely the best choice to effectively use the designed ergonomics; in fact, for both devices, usually cases completely erase that advantage. That said:

1.  Ergonomics: I like the Forma better; even though it’s bigger, I find it so much easier to hold, and it’s the only one I can use in bed with one hand. The back design of the Oasis makes my hand cramp quite fast, and I really can’t handle it with one hand in bed. In fact, my Oasis always has a cover on, because I find a flat back more comfortable than the original grip. I’m not able to tell you what makes the oasis uncomfortable for me, but it is. Personal opinion of a small-hands person though, it might be different for others. 
2.  Lighting: The Forma does have that famous lighting problem. Mine does too, with the cold light, in the form of a more blueish stripe (5mm circa). It’s on the buttons’ side and I don’t really find it all that bothersome, because:
      a.  I usually use the light only at night, so the warm light is always on. The warm light completely hides the problem.
      b.  The few times I happened to turn the cold light on, I still wasn’t bothered by the stripe, because it is on the margins of the page, where no text is.
In the end, the lighting of the oasis is better and there’s no talking about it, but I don’t find the Forma’s lighting appalling either.
3.  Size: Well, what beauty an 8 inch is. I’m not usually the one rooting for bigger (I got an iPhone 11 Pro and not the regular iPhone 11 because the pro is smaller lol). Till last Christmas, I only had a 6 inch Paperwhite I used both for books and manga. I’ve never had one single problem with it. And I still use it in situations where I would be afraid to ruin my nice ereaders. But then, I unwrapped my Christmas present Forma and went real nuts. 8 inches isn’t something you NEED if you only read books, but it’s s something you truly appreciate when you have it. Less turning pages, possibility to put a bigger font and still have many words on one page… the Oasis with its 7 inches is a compromise size for portability and bigger screen. It’s still less portable than a 6” though. And smaller than an 8”. 

The hardware/ergonomics comparison, I must give it to the Forma. It’s awesome. If I’m not wrong, it should also be more durable because of some sort of technology they used for the screen that makes it hard to break, while the Oasis’s glass screen, well… I try not to breath on it too much. The user interface of the Kobo is also real awesome, real comfortable. You can sort by title, author, series, or create you own collection. 

At the time, I had a number of problems with the Kobo firmware and side-loaded books and manga. I seem to have solved it with a few precautions, but if you intend to buy the books from the Kobo store, then go for it. If you adapt to the lighting thing, you’ll be the happiest.

This will be my first ereader purchase. I read quite a bit and recently I find myself fighting with the weight of the books I read, especially if they are 700+ page hardbacks where holding it in one hand when in bed is just not comfy and starts straining my wrist. Or reading paperbacks where you can never quite hold them open properly.

I narrowed it down to the Kindle Oasis 3 and the Kobo Forma. I'm NOT too concerned about the storefronts and the library because they both seem to have all 50 of the books I have on my to read list. Also considering we are in lockdown (Sydney, Australia), I don't have the luxury of going to a store and trying these things out before I buy so I have to take people's opinion before I do so.

My main concerns are around:

1. Ergonomics: Considering the issues I have with physical books, I want something that is super easy to hold in one hand and change pages without having to use my second hand. I read a lot in bed or on a couch or at a park/beach and I want to have something that feels effortless. I understand the Oasis 3 and Forma are basically the same weight (10gm difference) but what I would like to hear is if the ergnomics are good; is the weight distributed well making it feel lighter and easy to hold.Also considering the Oasis is aluminium and the Forma is rubbery, does that help one way or the other for ease of holding?
2. Lighting: I do read in the dark quite a bit so whatever I get, I want to ensure that the backlighting is decent. Also I do want to reduce eye strain and hence dont want to use any of my tablets for reading (that and battery life). I understand that the Forma and the Oasis 3 both have warm backlighting with the Oasis having better backlighting because of more LED's.Are there any issues with the Forma lighting due to consistency and is it noticeable enough where it might annoy people reading it?
3. Size: The Forma is bigger. Does that feel like a good benefit to have while reading? When it comes to phones and tablets I generally always get the biggest size possible but want to make sure that the benefits of a bigger screen size dont get cancelled by the ergonomics.

So really it feels like Ergonomics, weight, ease of holding, size and lighting are what are my major points of consideration to choose between the two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interested in Forma and Oasis 3. Concerned about ergonomics and lighting.

 So perhaps that's the reason why. But I think it comes down to it that not having an SD card is just cheaper. And you look at the specs this is the exact same e-reader as the Voyage but it's significantly cheaper. I agree that it is cheaper not to have all those things like SD cards and audio jacks and speakers

 This is $129 Canadian and the conversion is about 25 percent right now meaning this is literally half the price of a Voyage and you get the same kind of specs. So this is an amazing bargain because if they're using this to compete with the Voyage and it's half the price it goes without saying that this is a tremendous deal. This e-reader comes out in Canada starts shipping on April 28th 2015. It's going to be available in retail locations such as Chapters Indigo on May the 1st

 And this is literally half the price. The Kindle Voyage is $200 USD. This is $129 Canadian and the conversion is about 25 percent right now meaning this is literally half the price of a Voyage and you get the same kind of specs. So this is an amazing bargain because if they're using this to compete with the Voyage and it's half the price it goes without saying that this is a tremendous deal

Kobo Glo HD Hands on Review

 Hey everyone, welcome to another Goodie Reader review video.

 Today we have something exciting for you.

 This is the e-reader you see before you.

 This e-reader is very different from prior Kobo models.

 For one, it actually has the highest resolution and the highest PPI in the history of any

 It has 300 PPI and the resolution is 1448 x 1072 and it's employing e-Inkarta.

 This e-reader has 4 gigs of internal memory and that is pretty well what you get, but

 when you take it out of the box, you roughly only have about 3 gigs because the operating

 system, some of the preloaded materials and so on.

 Peter, give us the 360, what's this e-reader all about?

 The look went back from the flush screen of bezel on the Aura to a sunken in screen like

 So you do have about 1 or 2 millimeters from the surface to where the screen is.

 The look is very simplistic, it's a very run of the mill, black border, the Kobo raised

 piano finish logo on the bottom, Rakuten on the back because they got bought out a few

 The back is a perforated dotted hard rubber plastic, very nice, leaves a lot of fingerprints

 The little perforations offer a ton of grip, but on the downside, it kind of shows a lot

 of dust and catches a lot of particles inside.

 Moving on the left or the right, the top has the power button and the bottom has the micro

 USB and hard reset and that's the hardware.

 It's important to note that this is the only Kobo e-reader that they've ever released that

 So this is the main UI, it's maintained its aesthetic look and feel from prior Kobo models.

 Everything is fairly dynamic as you can see here that we have preloaded in a few books

 and they've immediately appeared here on the device.

 Pretty well commonly accessed functions and features will appear on your home screen.

 So if you, for instance, open up a web browser, the web browser will appear on your home screen

 Most Kobo e-readers have some social capabilities.

 You have your reading stats, which basically gives you some statistics based on your reading

 habits and you can see here that it's pretty comprehensive.

 You can think of this as Xbox style achievements and things like that, something to like keep

 you interested, but it doesn't really look like over the years that they've added any

 It's pretty well the same awards that they've had like basically forever.

 Kobo Bookstore I think looks really good and it actually loads up super fast.

 I mean, we hit the bookstore link and it's like immediately loaded.

 With the Iacardus screen, you can see that the carousel images super fast, very robust.

 Kobo doesn't really bog you down in a ton of different options.

 It's doing quite well and all the light you cannot see, which I don't see it here, but

 So getting into the library, this is where you can look at the books, previous collections,

 Pocket, formally read it later is basically, you know, you find something online that you

 want, you install the plugin for a web browser like Firefox or Chrome and you could send

 like blog articles and links to your e-reader.
