Kinu M47

Recently upgraded from my Polex Mini to a Kinu M47-Simplicity. I had always heard the grinder makes a difference, but you know, until you do it you don't really understand. I feel like I was watching TV, but the picture was a little blurry but passable and even enjoyable. Now I feel like not only is the picture clearer, but the show im watching is also just better.

Less than 2 weeks of using it the receiver is made of low quality plastic, and there is no reply from Kinu customer service, and there is no spare parts available for sale for it any were.

Having an excellent grinder is one of the best coffee investments. If you're willing to go manual, here are my recos. The higher end ones are the Kinu M47 and the Comandante C40.

I owned a new Phoenix for a few months and, like other reports here, the cup cracked. While it does have its fans, there are many reports of poor grind quality, excessive retention, and its step size is large enough to make dialing in a challenge. I did use the built-in grinder in my Breville Barista Express, which is similar to the Breville Dose Control Pro, and it was terrible. I quickly upgraded it to a Kinu M47 hand grinder, and eventually to the Specialita. Did you consider any of the less expensive Mignons (Manualle or Silenzio)?

I received this as a gift, unaware how pricey it is. Before I had been using a Hario "Skerton" hand mill with ceramic grinding surfaces. For my chosen fineness of grind the Hario mill required about 150 turns to grind enough for one cup, but the Kinu only requires about 70 turns for the same finenes...

I loved its brewer but hated its grinder due to its large step size and high retention. After a few months I couldn't stand it any longer and got a separate grinder (Kinu M47). It was like getting a whole new machine. For this reason I would recommend you get a separate grinder.

I have the Kinu m47 classic handgrinder. Used it for the Chemex/Aeropress and now for my Gaggia Classic espresso machine. Sure, grinding is a (small) chore. But it also makes me appreciate the result a bit more.

My wife and I have had three catchers crack on us and we have not the slightest idea why or how. We do NOT machine wash them, only hand wash, and have not dropped them either but somehow they've all developed a crack. It'd be fine if they were cheap to replace but at $25 for a pack of two + shipping...
