They're solid in my opinion(and HEAVY), one of the few Ibanez models that you pick up and say to yourself, "This ain't no usual Ibanez...". Thick P bass-y neck, massive bridge that offers top load and string through, it's just an awesome bass to me...I have the fretted and fretless ATK300, and a PGB1 is super hard to find right now. Me personally, I'd grab it.

With a $500 dollar budget go with used and hope for the best. With a bit of knowledge you can do pretty good. My bass rig is an old Peavey TNT130 I got for $50 bucks and an Ibanez ATK300 I got for $160. My guitar rig is an entirely different story
