And I think I'm probably not alone in that I'm not needing my $5K projector to be an all-in-one device. I just want it to be my video out display. I don't want it to be my Netflix client, I don't even want it to be on the network unless there's an important update I need. I really don't want to be pestered daily with an alert notification that I haven't associated it with my Google account.

I think you're going to be in trouble. The L9G is an ultra short throw projector, which means it needs to sit \~10 inches from the wall, not across the room. Which means you'll need to place it on that little table under the screen. Now the problem with that is two fold, 1, it looks like you have kids...which means they could get near that projector and either A, laser their eyes, B bump it out of alignment.
