BenQ V7050i

V7050i from BenQ is a great option to try. This is a short-throw projector that fits your needs. The colors performance and the resolution are great. Although the price is a little bit higher than your ideal budget, it's worth the price. Cheers!

projectors are on 2-3 year cycles typically. BenQ just came out this year with the TK700STi and V7050i. Those are the newest. I believe the TK700STi is an overall upgrade over the 3550, but you can check and compare reviews.

Great picture, totally outshines my previous epson 4010. Brighter picture and true 4K. Price is still a little on the high side. Not sure how important input lag is but the new BenQ v7050i and upcoming Vava Chroma tri-laser are interesting. The BenQ seems to be getting very good reviews for color and sharpness and with a 10% discount comes out to \~$3,100. The Vava Chroma was just announced and will be allegedly shipping in October. If you get in on the Indigogo pricing, which is available in September, it will cost $3,200.
