If you can snag the HE-500 and can tolerate 500g+ of weight and are confident with modding them a bit, you've got an exceptional sounding pair out of the HE-500 that rivals the Clear IMO. If anyone wants more comparison, I'll give as best description as I can with the cans I currently have (Alpha Dogs, Audeze Sine) and my notes from other notable cans I had and sold (Hifiman HE-400i, Sennheiser HD650).

When my ex-gf expressed her desire for wireless Beats, I bought it for her for her birthday not long after. Then she heard my HE-500 and LCD-2 rev. 1. She preferred both over her Beats and I think liked the HE-500 most out of the three.

Hifiman HE-500 - has my most preferred tonality, with the capabilities matching that of the likes of a Focal Clear and >$500 headphones in today's market. Needs a couple of mods to fix some of its glaring flaws (mainly comfort). Don't need PEQ for this.

My first jump into this all was actually 3 headphones. I bought the Sennheiser HD598, Sennheiser HD650, and HiFiMAN HE-500. I never really paid too much attention before then, but when I got the headphones.. I was actually really amazed at how different they all sounded.
