 This is a new review of the Hiferman HE-500, now this is quite an old orthodynamic headphone from Hiferman, part of the original line I would say, and this comes from the old Hiferman design where it's very heavy, very bulky and quite heavy double sided magnets. Now to me from the old range of headphones, the HE-500 is my favourite from reasons I'll get into, so let's start with the build. Now the Hiferman HE-500 has a metal headband with these plastic bits here which hold the hinge and the cup holders here, and they're all made out of metal, quite solid steel if I may say so myself, and there's a bit of spring steel inside the headband and a bit of padding, but I will say there's not actually enough padding in here, although it is soft, so a lot of the time if you do own this headphone or plan to buy it, I'll recommend grabbing some aftermarket padding to make it a little more comfortable over long listening sessions, although I would say for myself I didn't have any issues with headband discomfort for the first 3 or so hours, which is not too bad. Now continuing on, I have seen that these plastic bits here have been point of failure for this design of headband for Hifermen in the past, so if you are picking one up second hand that is something I would keep in mind, although if they do break, I have seen people do driver transplants from the HE500 to the HE400 560 kind of housing, and if that is something you're interested in, you can easily do that through picking up a pair of Hifermen HE350s which often go for maybe around $50 and transplanting drivers into that, and that would solve the comfort issue and this bit breaking, so that is something you could do

 While you can argue that they have other benefits, one being lighter, they do not slam as hard as these do, so if you like a bit of slamming on your bass, these are excellent. The Focal LX, those for some reason seem to have some variation in terms of driver resolution, so that's something that I'm not really sure about or confident to recommend. Continuing on, soundstage. These I wouldn't say are wide headphones, but they are wider than the HE400i and the 4XX and the 560

 I think the Sandara build is better, treble is better, but I like this as a whole package more because I like more of a balanced sound rather than a bright one. Overall, this is an excellent headphone, stands up to the test of time and I think there's a reason why this is many people's favourite headphone out of the old Heifermann line, because it is such an all-rounder, it is a very good performer for its price even today. So check it out if you have the time. It is definitely something that should be in consideration if you are looking to buy something in the sub $1000 range

Hi all, I'm considering getting dt 990 (edition or pro variant doesn't really matter) but idk which one to get or is there any other better option up to 250$. 

Long story short i have a couple of iems and qudelix 5k for convenience and general audio source. I would get 250 ohm variant but i don't think q5k can do it, 80 ohm is safest option for me in that case. Amp is in further plans but can't afford both at the moment. 

I'll be happy to see if there are other options, perhaps better. And most important which version of dt990 qudelix can drive .

Edit 1: thanks to all of you advising to buy hd6xx and other 600 series senn. I should clarify that 6xx are out of reach thanks to regulations in Poland, i have to pay 23% more + way to much for shipping and customs. Hd 600 and 650 are to expensive for me.

So who are these for/\s/? If you're into sound mixing, podcasting, video/\s/editing, radio or recording studios, or any/\s/ environment where you need accurate sound, the/\s/7506s for less than 100 are a must have. There/\s/ is a reason why the 7506s have become and still/\s/are the industry standard used and recognized/\s/ all over the world

 This is what makes/\s/them so great for mixing. These/\s/headphones allow you to hear detail and nuances/\s/ that you simply otherwise would not hear for/\s/example the subtle exhale at the end of a sentence/\s/ or the slight pop in vocals. This is what makes/\s/them so great for mixing. And for me, whilst editing/\s/ and working with multiple audio sources, this lets/\s/me gauge how all the audio sources sound together/\s/ but also lets me set the audio levels so that the/\s/audience's focus remains on the sound that I want/\s/ Additionally, when editing audio with these/\s/headphones I no longer have to test the audio on/\s/ different normal headphones and speakers instead/\s/as long as the audio sounds balanced on the 7506s/\s/ I know that it is balanced correctly without/\s/any strong bias towards a particular frequency/\s/ Now, this will actually save me time in/\s/my editing workflow now do bear in mind/\s/ if you are listening to poor audio quality/\s/due to the clarity and detail of the 7506s/\s/ it may seem like the audio sounds worse, but this/\s/is not the case

 Highs are crystal clear/\s/ allowing for the smallest details in vocals to/\s/come through or sounds like for example, glass/\s/ breaking to sound incredibly true to life. The/\s/mids are clean and well separated from the highs/\s/ and lows. In terms of lows, the 7506s provide a real/\s/kick with deep and punchy bass. Crucially, while not/\s/ overpowering the other frequencies, I'm pleased to/\s/say that the highs, mids, and low frequencies are/\s/ all very clearly separated and equally present/\s/what this allows for is very strong instrument/\s/ separation when listening to audio tracks

Sony MDR-7506 Review: This is why these are still used after 30 years...

 It is going into a CLM dynamics, a preamplifier, definitely pro, pro grade preamplifier and recorded in through Reaper. I then render that raw audio to a wave. And then I play it back through an objective DAC and an O2 objective amp running through a Mac that is placed on headphones right over top of these ears. And I clamp them on there nice and tight so that the, so that they're, they're not leaking sound

 And so in many cases, if you're new to voiceover, if you're working on your own YouTube, you're working on your own podcast, chances are you're not necessarily, you're going to be both the talent and the director and the producer and the mixer and the mastering. You're going to be doing all of those things. So you want to make the best possible decision based on what you're hearing through your monitors and through your headphones. So the reason I started with the MDR 7506 is because you see them literally everywhere

 You won't necessarily see them like in the highest end studios, they'll be using much more premium things in this. But I've seen sound engineers, I've been to studios where the engineers are wearing these. I've been filming, not filming, recording commercials where the other person who's recording me is listening on these. I've listened on these when I've recorded in studios

My Sony MDR 7506 Headphones (and why I don't use them)

 The receiver drives the headphones louder and with less distortion than my iPhone can, and the battery lasts for a few days of intermittent listening. Whatever loss is introduced by the aptX coding is invisible to my ears.I'm blown away by how good this setup is given the price and there shouldn't be any dependency on an expensive source device to run it.

Do I really need to get out the soldering-iron again?

  I had a pair of orig V6s back in the day and they eventually broke at the slider mount for the earpiece when I sat on them. These are prolly weak in the same way. Should otherwise be durable and long lived.

  Like any reference-class AV device, these are notable for nuanced reproduction and for not calling attention to any aspect of performance. It's all there, but it doesn't make you go wow. It's just very good sound.  Recommend
