Bought and sold a ton of guitars throughout the last year and a half, including multiple Gibson LPs, PRSs, a Gretsch, a number of different Strats and tried out a ton of other stuff extensively at stores, trying to find what I really liked best and I just kept coming to back to the Fender Stratocaster. I think I'm finally ready to call it with this one (that's what they always say) as it's a straightforwars Strat with everything I could want and more. The addition of the push/push knob that adds the neck pickup to whatever position you're on, giving you 2 extra positions is awesome, and the whole guitar just sounds and plays great!.

This is a very nice-sounding guitar, and I love the color. The only problem is there were some big scratches on the pick guard. It's not worth the trouble of sending back and doesn't affect the sound, but it kind of pisses me off that I spent this much money on something and it's scratched up.

Usually they are all the same. The fender Stratocaster is the most customizable guitar there is because of that.

My guitar's setup was awful out of the box. There was fret buzzing and the neck was bowed. I had it set up and now it plays like a dream. It's worth the money, but you may need to set it up out the box.

Based on everything you said, most importantly your sound influences and price range, I would get a Fender Player Series Stratocaster. I have had mine since 2013 (when it was just MIM, before Player Series was a thing!) and I love it more and more every day. High quality guitar and the MSRP is $749.00 if you are in the US.
