Overall I ran my fingers along the side of the fretboard and nothing felt too sharp or anything, and each note rings out pretty cleanly without any real buzz (unless it's on me fretting a chord that I'm not yet comfortable with). Overall finger placement has been pretty forgiving.

They’ve gotten a lot better in recent years, and it’s possible I’m a sucker for a gimmick but the new inspired by Gibson Les Paul’s look fantastic.

As an alternative to Epi, you could give an LTD EX series a try.

Even less expensive but still good, are the Squier [Classic models. There are also less expensive versions of the Gibson Les Paul available.

If you have any friends who are electric guitarists, you could have them check the guitar to locate any problems you might not have enough experience to notice. If there are any, or if you just don't like the color, don't hesitate to send it back. When I bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio in 2014, I sent back two that I didn't like... and kept the third one they sent.
