I’m relatively new as well, but if you’re looking to downsize to something more balanced, I highly recommend the daiwa bg, but I’d go down to a 2500, and pair it with a medium rod. I use a 10-20lbs braid and a 8-10 lbs fluoro leader. I think it’s the perfect middle rod that’s light enough to throw your lure all day, and strong enough to handle just about anything your frozen bait might hook on to.

The reel is good quality and compares favorably to reels costing twice as much in terms of parts quality. Not sure if you're talking spinning or conventional... but I will tell you that the Daiwa BG is the best bang for the buck of any spinning reel I've ever owned. Fresh, salt.... static, trolling... caught everything from largemouth bass to 30+ lb blue catfish to in-shore trout, flounder & redfish.... offshore speedy king mackerel, mahi, red snapper etc. I have had a 4500 and a 5000 size for four years of heavy year-round use.

I recently bought the Daiwa spinmatic 4-piece travel rod. Has a pretty nice feel to it for a 5.5ft rod, and easily fits in a backpack when broken down. The price comes out to about 55 euros, so if they are available in your area I'd definitely recommend it. It's an ultralight rod, but I think will probably handle any freshwater fish you can reasonable throw at it.

Daiwa Laguna LT is hands down the best $50 spinning reel on the market, the revros lt is good to for $40. I hesitate to recommend a Sienna cause they dont really hold up in my experience after some use. Dont have that problem with the affordable daiwas. But if you ever decide to spend $200 or more then I would switch to shimano, thats the price point where shimano really starts to shine.

The BG is the first Davies reel I’ve owned in quite some time and I love it! It’s super smooth and I can cast a mile with it. I’ll definitely be getting another.
