AMD Laptops finally reach the 4k screen barrier
This is also true. Gaming laptops tend to have a nice blend of performance features that lend them well to overall performance in may cases, but likely not focusing on super long battery life. It'd be great if there was a marketing push for gaming laptop-like performance without all the gaming embellishments like RGB lighting, "stealth" appearance, etc. I'd love an elegantly designed, high-capacity battery version. The Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition gets the best of these features, with the one exception of lacking a mux switch to turn off the integrated graphics when using the dedicated graphics for even more performance on the built-in screen. There are several YouTube videos that cover this, amongst the best are Jarrod's Tech.

This sub in a nutshell
I'm pretty sure a lot of people in this sub agree that strix advantage g15 is amazing. It's too good for its price. The legion fanclub is annoying but don't let that stop you from actually getting a legion, given it's within budget.

I got a Asus ROG Strix G15 "AMD Advantage". Fedora 34 wouldn't boot so I installed Fedora Rawhide, excluded kernel\* from updates and downgraded to Fedora 34. So far and to my surprise everything appears to working. I had to enable systemd-resolved after the downgrade but that's it.

The MSRP is $1699.00... also be aware you also need a USB-C to HDMI Adapter to get direct access to the 6800M, otherwise video routes through the IGP and bottlenecks performance, also replace the default memory as it is not really gaming friendly.

trying to get into laptop gaming, is this good? I have no idea what I'm looking at lmao
Asus strix g15 advantage edition linked in the above comments is by far the best performance you can get at that price point. It probably the best price per performance in all laptops
Asus ROG Strix G15 w/ RTX 3060 or Advantage Edition?
Advantage Edition is still the best bang for the buck deal IMO. 6800M is in-between 3070 and 3080 in performance. Its downsides include lack of DLSS and some QA problems on earlier units. I think the 3060 model you are referring to has a poor display with 45% srgb and only 250 nits of brightness.
