 When you're out on the roads now the fork, that's another change for this year. Typically, this has been a chromoly fork, but this year they've gone to an aluminum fork, so you actually saved some weight up front, but you still maintain all the mounting points for racks and fenders and things like that also on the fork. This has something that they call a through skew. What a thrill is is basically a skewer on the front that acts like a through axle, so it's closed on the disc brake side and that allows for the front wheel for the front wheel not to have the risk of ever coming

 The 520 is basically built as a tank to be able to hold up for long hauls, and it's got a whole bunch of features to it. That'S gon na make this a really durable touring rig. Now, if you look anywhere on the Internet, this is usually one of the first picks for somebody trying to get a touring bike and get into touring. I suggest a used touring bike. They have a comfortable geometry but you get road handles bars to help keep your hands comfortable instead of flat bars with only 1 hand position. A used trek 520 can be around $400 but you can get them cheaper.

I could possibly want to road race or bike more rugged trails in the future, but in either case I would probably just get another bike built for that.

I’m mostly interested in hybrid bikes with front suspension. In particular, looking at Trek dual sport and Giant Roam. However I’m open to other suggestions. I don’t know much about gravel bikes but they seem pretty popular now.

Budget is ~700, but obviously just want to get the bike I am excited to ride. Thanks!

 With this model, I know the newer models now are coming with a mix of the mountain and the road because they switched out the micro shifters, the barn shifters to STI, and so in order to do so, they had to make them rode. They don't have D or my the STI shifters, so they changed it to, I believe, Olivia, and so now it's Olivia in the back and saw in the front.  on Dual Sports the higher the number the better. And on the Dual Sport 2 you get a neat thing with the front suspension where it has a lockout. and what a lockout does is, it effectively locks out the suspension so it's not compressing. So if you're going out on one of those fitness rides and really wrenching against the bike, it's pretty cool because it's able to lock the front end out, make sure everything's as efficient as possible, and then you can open that lever back up to have your full compression and comfort

 essentially what we're running here is a two by nine drivetrain from Shimano and so up front you've got two rings, which is a high in a low position, so the larger the ring the faster you're going to go. Lower position is better for going up on climbs and then looking out back is going to be a Shimano Altus rear derailleur operating a Shimano 11 to 36 tooth cassette. Now the neat thing here is the front is going to be a 46 30 gear ratio and in back it's 11 36. Which means that the gear ratio on this is lower than a one to one, which is sort of the gold standard for being able to get up a climb

 Now, the positioning of the bike is very similar to mountain bike. However, because it's still running a road bike diameter wheel and it's still setting you up in a efficient position, this is going to ride in a much lower amount of resistance than a traditional mountain bike would on say, a road or a paved surface. And so that's where the magic comes in here. This particular bike is definitely a good choice for people who are thinking of, you know, what's the one bike that can do it all

 You're going to have a standard 27.2 seat post with a clamp making it nice and theft resistant but also hold in place. And then as we go to the back of the bike you'll have neat things like a spot for a duo trap which is a sensor that you can add to measure speed and cadence how fast you're pedaling. It's also got a rear mount kickstand spot which is helpful in case you run a rack on the bike

One Bike That Can Actually Do It All? | 2022 Trek Dual Sport 2 Review

Kids have outgrown their bikes so we scrambled to buy new ones as we handed down our bikes to them. With the help of the staff at Trek, I was able to procure this bike in less than a month!  Seat is very comfortable along with the ergonomic handlebars. This is my first hybrid bike - always had mtn bikes. The ease of speed is exhilarating!  Changing gears is very easy

 I'm 5'5" and based on sizing chart I could've gone small or medium so sized up to medium. The bar on the medium is straight and doesn't dip. It's a little high for me so wished I'd gone with small instead but it wasn't available.

2 millimeter seat post, so that's 27.2 millimeters in diameter. It's two bolts adjustable so you can get that angle dialed in just right. And a nice feature that I like to see is it's a bolt-on clamp so you can see that's operated with a four millimeter Allen key to open it up, allow the adjustment up and down and I like that over a quick release because if you get this locked up outside of the coffee shop or take it into town, leave it on the back of your car

 Now, this particular bike is outfitted with their gold alpha aluminum, which means this is a shaped and butted tubing frame. It runs internal cable routing so it's pretty sleek. You don't see things coming off and part of the reason you want that is say putting it on a car rack or locking it to something. You don't have cables in the way because as these cables come through they all dial right into the frame

 This is the Nex fork with 63 millimeters of suspension travel, so by 63 millimeters, we're talking this distance here. and then it makes it even more interesting because you do have an integrated lockout so that Sr. Suntour calls this the speed lock and basically you can have it all the way open which will allow the front end to compress, absorb bumps and keep it more comfortable and then you can lock it down. If you're trying to be efficient, get the best workout and you don't want the front end of the bike bouncing around so all those things dial together and then they add in a fair bit of tire clearance
