TP-Link EAP660 HD vs Ubiquiti UniFi AP

Multiple home wireless connection tests with my cell phone yielded 390 mbps or less on the EAP 245, while the Archer A7 connected at 780 mbps. I tried multiple configurations, making sure that only one device was powered on at a time, to insure no interference from the other device. In addition, the EAP 245s coverage to devices on my second floor was marginal. Tests with my laptop yielded similar results - 450mbps speeds connected to my old Archer A7, while the EAP 245 topped out at about 190mbps - all devices I tested were in the same room as both the EAP 245 and the Archer A7

It's sitting up on the wall with a nice blue light, and delivering good bandwidth throughout my older house. I added this to my network rather than replacing anything - I was getting "customer" (family) complaints about dropped connections from my older Zytel WAPs so I just added this in. 11ac, and they have worked well. The good: For this unit, I built a new controller in AWS based on some instructions on the Ubiquiti forums. In order to adpot this access point, I had to create a DNS entry on my local gateway for the name "unifi" pointed to the public IP of my cloud controller in AWS. I did that, plugged this thing in, and within 1 minute the AP was available for adoption in the cloud controller, and in less than 5 minutes the AP was up to the latest code, provisioned, and taking clients

Both have 802.11ac adapters, with my desktop having an AX adapter. My signal strength is also 'meh'. I thought I was missing something huge and obvious but something seems off

I live in a two story townhome and my cable internet connection terminates on the second floor in my guest bedroom. While the wi-fi upstairs works pretty well my home has a lot of walls with unconventional angles which prevented me from getting a good signal in my downstairs area. I hired a company to come extend my cable downstairs which they did, but they also recommended that I use this Ubiquiti Unifi WAP which would give me good and consistent connectivity in my downstairs area. The technician brought this device with him when he came to my home and said he had installed several of these in the past and that they worked great

Most of all, it is UNACCEPTABLE to offer no replacement for a BAD devices for over a month and market that system as a "Business" class device. Who has more than a month to wait on a piss-poor managed company? Like I said in my title, "MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SPARES"

I previously had an older ubiquiti product in the 2.4ghz range, but the air here is saturated causing me to purchase a new WAP. Having a device that is dual band, ability to operate in the 2.4/5ghz space, means that all of my older devices that are incpable of operating a 5ghz will still have the ability to connect to the wireless access point as well

None of my other equipment - Ubiquiti, Engenius, Netgear - had this issue when I moved them to my management VLAN, so one star off for this needless complexity, with settings scattered over three locations, and *zero* documentation either on the web configuration screens or the user guide for setting this up. A simple two sentence caution on the Management VLAN screen would have been sufficient - or, here's a crazy idea: Why not put the settings there? Last time I checked, there's no law that says you can't duplicate the same settings in several places, so you have all the settings that logically go together for the same function grouped together, so you don't have to hunt all over the UI for a setting on a different page that might be affecting what you're trying to enable. Also, when I log in with HTTPS using Firefox, it keeps wanting to know if I want to save my password (it's already saved), but it shows the password as a string of numbers, not the actual password, so I have to wonder if HTTPS is actually implemented correctly on the EAP245, because it sure seems like maybe it's taking my password and using it to generate a key that it then sends in plaintext across the network. Again, none of my other network equipment generate this weird behavior with HTTPS log ins

and it will also break usage down per client, which begins to border on privacy invasion. At the very least, your controller should be protected by a very strong password, and data collection should be limited to whats necessary. In my case, and for these specific deployments, i've made the decision to turn DPI off unless a problem arises that requires that level of network supervision

My house sits in the middle of a one and a half acre lot and I get good to fair signal in my entire yard with exception of a few areas. I don't have fast internet so for the most part I am more concerned with coverage than speed. I have a TP-Link CPE510 on my detached garage setup as a client connected to this EAP110-Outdoor to serve as a WiFi bridge to my garage network. I have two wired security cameras on my garage feeding back to the NVR in the house over this link

This review is intended for users new to Ubiquiti. This is a great option for covering a large area. The range is very good, but not necessarily better than other options. What sets it apart for casual use is the reasonable price and the ability to add on more devices to extend the range

RTFM folks. The instructions are in the manual! Setup took about 15 minutes but only because after I updated the firmware I had to set all up again.

This is exactly what the instructions say to do, and then I was able to set it up and upgrade firmware and confirm that it was online. Probably plugging in directly to the UniFi AP is another possible method (didn’t try this) - but this is surprisingly not suggested in the instructions. Actually the instructions never mention your personal computer at all, so someone with no network experience may never figure this out. Probably explains all the “couldn't find the device” reviews
