I kind of bit the bullet and went out and bought one, looked up Guitar Shop, second hand, played it, fell in love with it, it was so easy to play, lovely neck build on it, 34 inch scale length I believe, 20 frets, plays like a dream, nice and light weight, so you're not after 45 minutes of a long set, pulling your back out. Fender Squire Vintage Modified '70s Jazz Bass Guitar Review

 Hi there, today we've got my jazz bass, a Fender Squier, a vintage modified jazz bass

 in a natural soft maple. As you can see that's a fair bit of wood, 20 jumbo frets, C shaped

 neck, it's got a vintage gloss, I believe they refer to it as, which is a very thin

 gloss, it almost feels like natural wood, so you do have a nice feel across it, play

 quite nicely. Two single coils, volume control for each one, and a tone. The pickups are

 ok, they're Duncan designed, unfortunately they do pick up a fair bit of string noise,

 so if you are looking to record with this, or you have a very sensitive amp, you get

I've been playing it non-stop for the past few days now, and holy shit is this thing good. I can't believe this bass was only €222 (roughly  $260) because it looks, feels and sounds absolutely amazing for what it is. I used to have a Squier VM Stratocaster when I was just starting out, and although that being a more expensive guitar at the time, it felt pretty cheap.

 Another option would be Sire, though I've never been the biggest Sire fan (others love them). Ibanez and Cort make fretless offerings at this pricepoint, and they're great, but they are unlined.

I play hard rock/punk (though I do try other genres for studies and practice) and I've always liked the sound of fretless. I already own a fretted 4 string Ibanez and I'm looking into some fretless models. I'm on sort of a budget since I'm a college student. Any recs?

What fretless 4 string basses under $1200 do you guys recommend?

 I ordered Hipshot tuning peg as well as the Hipshot A-Style bridge and put them on. And guess what, it's now SUPER SOLID! and the string is tight af heheh (side note: on the hipshot tuning peg you can adjust the tightness of the peg! and for the A-Style bridge you can adjust the spacing between all 5 strings!) Now this bass is officially not a Squier bass anymore after modification hahah. Btw I duck taped the logo because I still HATE when it says "Squier" on it lol! I might scratch it off someday and put Fender on.

 Actually, something interesting about the bridge pickup, Ben and Gio both felt it was a little weak and lacking the punch of a J-bass bridge pickup, which I agreed, and then I later tried bringing the pickup a little bit closer to the strings, and I actually feel it made a significant difference... In getting that bridge pickup punch and quack, so that really made a big difference for me, so I do feel like I could get some good bridge pickup-y jazz bass sounds out of this thing

 So we're going to find out in this video, does this live up to the Fender name and can you get a good jazz bass sound for so little money? Plays really nice.  Get the net, Fender! It's nice, kind of some of that typical, with the treble side up, some of that typical kind of P-bassy tubular tone, but not really quite there, still a little more articulated. The bassy tone was really nice and tight, it kind of reminded me of some of the good old kind of a power upper register, more of that tight bassy tone. I think I like the bridge pickup, but I like the neck pickup a lot more. The bridge pickup just falls flat a little bit, but not even much at all

. In getting that bridge pickup punch and quack, so that really made a big difference for me, so I do feel like I could get some good bridge pickup-y jazz bass sounds out of this thing. In the comfort department, this bass is pretty all right. The way it feels a little heavier than any of the other basses, I'd have to verify that with the numbers, but it feels a little heavy, and of course, it's got a little bit of the fender neck dip thing going on, because these head stocks are so big and bulky, but it's okay

 to do all these gymnastics, and also this cutaway doesn't go deep enough to really get

 to the top frets, and there's only 20 frets.

 Typical Fender issues, there's nothing wrong with this particular bass, but it does cause

 me to dock some points from the neck feel, because that stuff's really important to me.

 It's nice, kind of some of that typical, with the treble side up, some of that typical kind
