If you don't have a lot of space for your setup, a standalone bar like the Sonos Arc is a good option since it doesn't come with a subwoofer that takes up more room. It's a really premium bar with a wide and immersive soundstage that makes it seem like your favorite movies are happening all around you, and it's a great choice for everything from TV shows to Dolby Atmos movies found on lots of streaming services. The bar's sound profile is slightly bright, with balanced mids that ensure dialogue is clear and present, and higher-pitched voices sparkle in the mix. You can use its bass and treble adjustments to get a more neutral sound.

Naturally, without a dedicated subwoofer, the bar really struggles to reproduce the deep thump and rumble in the low-bass found during action-packed movies. If you change your mind down the line, you can always add a subwoofer and satellites that you can buy separately. Or, if you have the space, you can look at the larger, heavier Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar with an integrated subwoofer.

The best soundbar without a subwoofer that we've tested is the Sonos Arc. This soundbar has a very premium design, and it offers a really impressive Dolby Atmos performance compared to other standalone bars we've tested. Even without satellites, the bar creates a wide and immersive-sounding soundstage that makes it seem like the action in your favorite movies and TV shows is taking place all around you.

Like most premium options on the market, this bar comes with a room correction feature that automatically optimizes audio based on your room's unique acoustics, which Sonos calls TruePlay. With this feature on, it has a fairly neutral sound profile that reproduces clear and accurate vocals and lead instruments, with a touch of extra brightness in the treble that makes your audio sparkle. It also has built-in support for voice assistants, meaning you can control it with your voice from the comfort of your couch.

Unfortunately, compared to other premium bars, there's a lack of sound enhancement features like an EQ for sound customization.  So once you've set up the arc, which is surprisingly easy to do, you do need to download the sonos app and add it to that. But it walks you through the whole process, and it is very, very simple now, once this is set up and plugged into your tvs, hdmi e-arc port, you can start adding other sonos speakers like the sonos sub, and you can also get some of their smaller one. Sls to go around the room and work as sort of rear speakers now, ultimately i have nowhere near enough money to do that just yet, but hopefully i will be able to share that experience with you as i slowly grow that ecosystem now, one of the benefits Of this is that it's an entirely wireless surround sound experience, so you can just have all these speakers plugged in in different corners of the room and it's all going to come together without the need of wiring in audio cables. It'S so easy and so easy and you can control it all through the sonos app, but we're not here to talk about all of the other speakers we're here to talk about the ark, the 800 pound or 800 arc

 It'S a dolby, atmos soundbar. That means it's not just sound, coming straight out of the sound bar this speaker's coming at you, but the speakers also aimed around the room and even up at the ceiling, and what this does it gives you an almost fake, surround sound experience by bouncing the sound Around the room, and if you want to learn a little bit more about that, i have done a video which explains things like audio channel numbers and dolby atmos, so feel free to go and watch that one after this this is dolby cinema. Have you felt it so yeah? I am massively impressed with the sound quality of this thing. First of all, all the way from high tones all the way down to the base

There'S one HDMI port, an Ethernet jack and the power input. It'S enough to connect to your TV, but you're not going to hook up all your streaming boxes and game consoles directly to this sound bar. This is intentional

 But it's not quite as deep sinners also softened the design into a rounded cylinder. Instead of a boxy rectangle, the onboard controls were moved from the right side to the top center and there now touch instead of physical buttons.  Sls, i wasn't able to do it and that really it kind of bummed me out, because i love how everything sounds. But it's not going to be compatible with everything you have to have an iphone or a mac computer in order to play any audio off of it, and you have to use certain music services connected to your sonos account in order for everything to work properly. So i wish they would just add bluetooth. It makes it really simple to connect it and play audio, but uh

 Like me and my girlfriend, we haven't watched the john wick movies. We somehow missed those, so we watched john wick. We watched john wick 2, the other night and we'll be watching john wick 3 very soon, and just the whole audio experience in very action-packed movies is absolutely incredible.  Swordplay and arrows flying by filled the space around the narration in a well-balanced mix, and the rumbling explosion and massive thud of Sauron's helmet hitting the ground after its defeat were a good opportunity to hear the Ray flex its base muscles. It includes two center mid woofers, two tweeters with split wave guides to broaden the speaker's sound stage, a bass reflex system that provides a surprising amount of low end performance, and four Class D amplifiers. even though my older beam doesn't support Dolby Atmos, its larger size and more complex speaker array give it a big advantage over the Ray

 The Ray might be an ideal choice for a first sound bar to upgrade your Tv's audio and then use it to build a more complex setup down the line by adding other components. That said, the Sonos sub costs a whopping 749 dollars. It's hard to imagine someone buying a ray and then spending three times as much on a subwoofer. While the Ray is meant to be hooked up to your Tv, it's also a capable music speaker
