I'm looking for an Atmos soundbar and I think I might go for the Samsung Q900A because I don't want the satellite speakers (small apartment). The new Sony HT-A7000 seem amazing but a little out of budget for now.

 Pricing wise Sonos Arc is $999 CAD, and Samsung Q900A (no rear sattelite speakers, 7.1.2) is $1299 CAD.

I am ordering a QN90 samsung tv, it has a feature called Q-Symphony that according to Samsung ‘allows TV and soundbar speakers to operate simultaneously for better surround effect without muting TV speakers.’ 

Does the Sonos Arc SL support Q-symphony? If not is the Sonos Arc worth it or should i get a Samsung soundbar? 

I prefer the look of the Arc

Does the Sonos Arc work with Samsung Q-Symphony? (Featured on QN90)

  the person actually told me to use the volume on my remote, please!  for a system of this caliber i would expect more in terms of being able to test the volume of each channel as i have a 2019 q80r tv and must calibrate the sound manually.  i expected more from a flagship model.

great sound but i am very disappointed in the setup process because (1) there is no way to test each individual channel to see if they are wotking and (2) there is no way to test the volume of each channel.  i called tech support and, as usual, the call gave me no more information than what is already in the user manual.  the person actually told me to use the volume on my remote, please!  for a system of this caliber i would expect more in terms of being able to test the volume of each channel as i have a 2019 q80r tv and must calibrate the sound manually.  i expected more from a flagship model

Great sound but not so great

 my settings are bass +6, subwoofer +6. when i set all my other speaker levels to -6, then the bass is more prominent,only slightly. nowhere close to what i've experienced with my lg or the jbl soundbar. i love this soundbar, but have to return for the quality of subwoofer at this price

 I will do a video on it if I ever get around to it. So we get these plastic rings that we screw to the wall, attach the L-shaped brackets to the soundbar. You get a template that you roll out to mark the wall up at your desired height. obviously put it level

 Now turn the sound bar on that should have connected tells me on this Tv Atmos enabled device connected, I'm going to flip it on its face so we can actually see the display. That's the only weird thing is you can't see it. Okay, so you can see. It'll say volume plus and minus

 There flip it over that comes off. He says double A batteries in the back dimensions quickly so the width at its widest point: 123 centimeters or is that 48 and a half inches 14 centimeters. The depth there or five and a half inches, seven centimeters or two and three quarter inches subwoofer dimensions. and if we'd call this the length or the depth but 40 centimeters that way, which is about 15 and three quarter inch width, 20 centimeters or just under eight inches

 In this case, pop it into the arc part port on the soundbar. Turned it on so we can see the subwoofer pairing. I'll just turn it around, put my mains input into it. If it reaches, I can just see the light there start to blink and it should go solid

I've got an older TV, not hugely old but by today's standard its almost an antique :)

I did have an old home theatre system, a crappy Samsung one but it did the job. Recently we renovated, and the wife says no more wires through the house. She wants a cleaner look, and so I'm thinking a sound bar.

I'm limited in that I can just have say the sound bar and a sub, no rear/satellite speakers due to the orientation of the room post renovation. Also it will break the "look" of the room to have rear/satellite speakers randomly sitting around or suspended from the walls or ceiling.

I was looking at the Sonos Arc (initially just the sound bar). It looks nice, every body seems to rave about it, and I can build on it over time (e.g. get a sub later). I'm not looking to become a Sonos fan boy deploying devices throughout the house or anything, so it got me thinking if I'm not looking to buy heavily into the Sonos ecosystem maybe I should be looking at other options.

I came across the Samsung Q950A. Sounds great, but is ugly as sin with some sort of nasty fabric covering. But I figured I could get past this, but I don't need the rear speakers, so I'm looking at the Samsung Q900A instead which seems to basically be the same thing without rear speakers?

Being that my current TV only supports ARC, no eARC, should I consider using one over the other or even another option?

The lack of ports on the Sonos Arc is a bit of a concern. The current TV I have has 4 HDMI ports (1x HDMI STB, 1x HDMI ARC, 2x, standard HDMI ports).

The devices I have are:

A XBox One
A Shield TV Pro
A Nintendo Switch

If I went with a Sonos Arc I would have 0 free ports until say I got a new TV with more ports or a HDMI hub (not super enthusiastic about).

Someone hinted at the JBL 9.1 as an alternative to the Sonos Arc or Samsung Q900A. Seems OKish I guess.

I will look to upgrade to a 4K TV some time in the near future to get some of the new tech, could even be within the next 6 months. With that in mind, any advice is much appreciated :) Am also reading through some other threads, but wanted to get your opinions on my current TV to be paired with either of these options (or another you'd recommend).

Edit: I should also add the room its in isn't great in general. Its open at the back with a kitchen behind it. The right side has a wall and windows, the left side a half wall into a formal lounge area. So I guess acoustically the audio is not going to be consistent left side to right side. If that makes a difference.

Older TV: Sonos Arc vs. Samsung Q900A vs. Others

This is our small home theater sound system, fitting into a room about 10x20. In that space, this sound bar can fill the room with ease and shake the walls without breaking a sweat. Installation and set up was easy, even accounting for the addition of the rear speakers which connect wirelessly. The system auto detects the activation of the inputs and turns on for us making it one less remote to program/reach for to get ready to use

We've watched a number of movies as well as connected this to an XBox console for gaming and in each case it was some of the highest quality and most immersive sound I've had outside a full THX theater. Admittedly, the smaller subwoofer means some of the base is a little lighter than ideal, but considering the space we're working in, it's still more than enough

Room Shaking Sound

 Just seems like getting multiple devices to handshake via hdmi and understand what each device is sending and receiving along the way in general can get complicated. - sound quality was fair. Like I said, more surround and 360 atmos sound than many other setups, or even just about any other soundbar or basic home theater setup. But… I don’t think I would say more immersive

 But… I don’t want to do that route. The tv supports hdmi 2.1 and I don’t want a middle man from my devices to the tv. I will add that this may be partially the tv as the culprit

 The setup I prefer works with the Sonos arc setup, but I have had some “handshake” issues with that as well from the Apple TV to the tv itself then to the arc. I’ve only noticed this once and it didn’t last long, but I do want to mention.  I had seen reports of this but also seemed like the latest firmware addressed this. I was wrong. The soundbar did not receive earc signals from my tv. I know this because Apple TV outputs as lpcm, which means to send atmos from that to the tv then via arc as is without recompressing from the tv to the soundbar you need earc

Sounds Good When Works

 So if you are looking at the HW-Q950A, and the market price of the HW-Q900A + SWA-9500S is significantly lower, you may want to consider that option.  I'm no audiophile but the HW-Q900A sounds pretty incredible to me as-is in 7.1.2

  Minor annoyances: * Not sure why you can't see which audio codec is being used most of the time? At least Atmos content will be displayed in text briefly on start. * Speaking of the display: You can't see it sitting down..

 * I also couldn't update firmware via the app for some reason. Worked fine with a USB stick. * It is odd that you need both the remote and the app to configure every possible setting.
