I have Q-Acoustics 3020i's that are warm and make everything sound warm, they scale well but can be a bit too warm at low volume. They make everything fun to listen to, but I feel they need to be played at considerable volume in order to balance out the the sound.

I'm glad Kanto is making passive stuff now. You know how I feel about active speakers, so I rarely was recommending them. For $159 though, I bet these are great for the price.

I recently got the passives and also Neumi BS5. Ended up returning the Neumi. Driven by Yamaha R-S202BL. 

These speakers give me the joy of discovering the songs anew. Neumi were good too but not great

Kanto YU Passive 5.25 - The TL/DR Review

 I can’t afford expensive speakers; this pressed my budget as it is, but I can’t imagine being any happier than with these. Lovely design, modern lines and simplicity. Love.

These little speakers are powerful and make my small receiver sound like a much more expensive stereo system. I don't even have a subwoofer, and they still deliver big sound as well as clarity to highs, lows, as well as midrange tones. I can’t afford expensive speakers; this pressed my budget as it is, but I can’t imagine being any happier than with these. Lovely design, modern lines and simplicity

I’d like some ideas for a good starter hi-if setup. Will be used for tv, movies, video games, and music. I’d like to use the tv’s eArc as an input. I’m planning on going with a stereo setup for at least a couple years. Is the best move to go with an AV receiver? Or should I use some kind of eArc converter to DAC to amp? Any suggestions on Equipment? Thanks!

Sub-$1000 sound bar replacement?

The bang for buck option I always recommend is revel m16 or elac dbr62 (always used for me) and a Rhythmik L12. Revel for larger spaces or louder listening, since I believe they can handle more power before distorting than the elac.

Consider two hypothetical same brand setups in the same price range:

A: Emotiva AirMotiv B1+ ($299) plus Emotiva Airmotiv SE8 ($329) or SE12 ($449)

B: Elac UniFi 2.0 ($550) plus Elac SUB1010 ($120)

Assumptions: powered by a capable but not overly muscular amp (say 70 watts into 8 ohms)  with a high pass filter

The Emotivas being a speaker that needs more bass support and probably sound really good when they have it, and the Elacs being a speaker that don't need it as much and you're just adding some oomph to the bottom. Not looking so much for opinions about the particular products (those are easy enough to come across), but more for thoughts about which approach makes more sense and why. 

Should a sub be 50% of your budget? or much less?
