The Panasonic LUMIX GH5 II is arguably one of the best 4k video cameras you can get outside of buying a dedicated cinema camera. It has a Micro Four Thirds sensor and has plenty of advanced video features, making it a popular choice for amateur filmmakers and videographers. It feels incredibly comfortable to shoot with, has a fully articulated screen to make shooting video easier, and features five-axis in-body image stabilization to reduce camera shake when shooting handheld.

The camera supports many recording formats and video codecs, including All-I compression for those who prefer to do frame-by-frame edits with higher-quality video files. It supports V-log recording and, depending on your video format, it can shoot 4k 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally to give you greater latitude when processing your videos.  That'S where we're still going to see some advantages on the other guys, no record limit for the video i mean that opens up a whole bunch of stuff for wedding photographers event: videographers uh. You know anything like that. I mean this is great stuff yeah. I find the image very comparable to the fs7, which is you know, they're everywhere, because it's a great reliable, workhorse camera with a nice picture very comparable to that now we haven't tested the c200 or the new eva 1, but this is still going to fill the Niche for us, because we need a small mobile camera, especially with that built-in stabilizer

 You go uh huge update, but there's a bunch of other stuff that came along with that which we'll definitely be talking about. Also we have v-log on these cameras. You can see the ungraded log right now, so we're going to touch on that for a bit. But let's start with the headline feature, which has been there from this sure i mean we just recently did a tcs episode about external recorders and and how they, you know, enhance your bit rate on a lot of cameras, your color space, but the gh5 has, from The very beginning had internal 10-bit 422 and that's a huge advantage yeah, it's extremely rare, especially with like a hybrid camera like this

 But for us, where does this fit in the video camera world? And i mean the only real drawback to it. I can see is if you need good, continuous autofocus from your cameras right um. That'S where we're still going to see some advantages on the other guys, no record limit for the video i mean that opens up a whole bunch of stuff for wedding photographers event: videographers uh. You know anything like that

 Yes, would you say that this is your favorite camera camera under 10 grand yeah i've been saying that a lot absolutely. If we have the choice of the fs7 or the gh5, i go to the gh5 for that stabilizer uh, the intuitive interface and then the fact that it's under 3 000. - that's just crazy. Panasonic GH5 Review (After 6 Months!)

Almost perfect, the best 4K color depth video camera (prosumer) BUT for the autofocus problems in keeping the main subject in focus. Firmware update to support 4:2:2 in 10bit color is slow and unavailable as of August 2017. Recommend gimble stabilizer even with a LUMIX IS lens.

4K Color Video Powerhouse!

 I would stack the Olymous Zuiko lenses up against the branded Nikon lenses any day of the week. In addition, ignoring the difference in focal length my Panasonic/Leica f1.2 42.5 rivals my Otus f1

- Image stability - I am very excited for the improvements - but I definitely need to do a lot of testing to see how it really performs.

 Now there are some poor lenses too, but if you are willing to pay a little more I have found all of the Panny/Leica and Olympus Zuiko lenses to be very, very good.

 I may be naive, but I just ASSUMED it would be great for video (minor improvements in the GH4 would have helped maintain its status). The GH5 is roughly double the price of the GH4 so you will need to understand if the photo improvements and the upgrades in video are really worth it to you. For me.

One Camera to Rule Them All?

Love this camera. The stabilization has changed the way I film weddings. It's a thing of beauty to use a 70-200mm lens on a monopod for wedding toasts. The dual card slots is great to have

A GH5 or G9 is the way to go for you, in my opinion. Unless you’re spending around 3000$/£ or more, full frame makes no sense - you’ll be stuck with one kit lens and you’ll need another grand to get another. In APS-C land, Canon and Nikon have nothing interesting, only the more recent Fuji X series cameras are seriously capable video cameras, but at the price point of a GH5 they’re generally inferior.

I've photographed for a good 6-8 years now and I have had a few cameras along the way, but mostly all of them have been entry-level cameras.

Now I'm shooting with Lumix g7, and I have been thinking of switching to a more pro- or semipro camera as I have been doing work as a part time photo- and videographer for a few years and I feel like the g7 is not enough for what's required anymore.

So, I need some help to find the best camera that suits my needs. I would like to have a camera that can do a decent job in stills and has video capabilities of at least 4k 60 fps.

Right now I have been thinking between Canon R5, Sony a7 III and Fuji X-T4.  
The thing is, I will also need to buy some quality glass also, so I'm torn in between if I should buy a cheaper body with some quality lens and save some money, or just go ape shit and spend the extra dollar for R5 and the glass. Full-frame is a temptation of mine, but my brain says don't do it, since it is much more expensive.

What do you suggest? I'm also open to considering different camera body if you have different setup in mind.

Help need for new camera

This camera is a powerhouse for the price. Full disclosure, my first camera was a Panasonic SD camcorder back in 2005, then switched to a Canon Pro camcorder in 2009, then jumped on the Panasonic train again with the GH3 and was using them until I picked up the GH5.  The image is amazing, but that's not news. What is news - and hopefully will not be overlooked - is how much this camera is amazing to use

4 to f0.95 when you're changing focus during a shot). Image stabilization (I shot my last wedding 90% handheld with non IS lenses and the footage is gorgeous.) This camera fixes all the frustrations I had with the GH3 (which really were lack of stabilization and lack of focus peaking) and upgrades the image amazingly

Professional Videographer - Love this camera

The zoom as an all-round lens and the 85mm as a close-up when the zoom is used wide-angle. I don't think overheating will be a problem as interviews don't go longer than 30-45min either. With my old equipment I'm used to stopping recording after 30min, changing memory cards and batteries and then filming again briefly. Autofocus is also usable here and resolution for photos is optimal

This is an amazing little package that can give cameras 4 times more expensive a run for their money. The Lumix DC-GH5 is blurring the lines between prosumer and professional with features like 4k at 60p, 10-bit 4:2:2 recorded internally, plus many more. Future firmware updates will blur those lines even further with a 400Mbp/s bit rate codec! This is an exciting camera that will give you stunning photos and videos (admittedly more on the video side). A must own for the aspiring photographer/filmmaker on a budget

Honestly if you're going to be doing online work for a long time I wuold recommend just getting a cheap camera, sure maybe it wont be as cheap as $87 but quality would be unbeat... Personally since I haven't been doing real estate photography I've just been using my sony a6500 as a webcam and the quality us unparalleled in my zoom meetings

 So touch screen autofocus is a huge change for the A6500, I know a lot of people have been looking for this, this is like the one thing that Sony hasn't done on their cameras, unfortunately it's just not totally fully implemented yet the way it should be. We are still discovering a lot of issues so first off the touch screen like any other it is easy to change it by accident, you know you find your autofocusing point is pushed up to the corners or not although you can actually separate it so that it either does the whole screen, half the screen or just the quarter right of the screen and that's nice if you find that your nose is accidentally hitting the screen in a bad place or not. The other things that you're going to find with the touch screen autofocus especially through the EVF it's quite laggy, so you're looking through it, push your thumb down and you kind of have to wait a little bit for it to kick in and then move around, unfortunately not fast enough to really do this on the fly in a quick sports situation, you still can't use it for your menus, doesn't seem to do much in playback so it's really just for moving your autofocusing point around, we're also going to talk about how this also impacts your video experience. So what we're really getting is some extra peripheral stuff that's changed

 You know overall folks, 6500, I guess this is almost like an A6300 plus or you know if it was Apple it would be like an A6300S or something like that okay, I mean we're not getting huge changes to the internal structure, we are getting some extra features and for frankly I do think that it does justify the $400 price tag, I mean some of this stuff is nice, the only real disappointment we're coming away with is the fact that the touch screen, not well implemented and overall if you already have a 6300, you might not really find this to be a necessary upgrade. You want to shoot video, I think it is worthwhile having some of those extra benefits. Overall though guys, we had a great time here in Austin, Texas, we had a great time with the A6500 and it does feel very familiar.  It is hot. Now we're out here with Sony, you know, they've flown us out here, they put us up, they do these big events to launch the new A6500 and we love this. You guys already saw us in Miami when we had the A6300 with Sony and now we're checking out the A6500 but keep in mind as much as we appreciate them getting us out here, they know, you know and we know that we're going to tell you what we like about the camera and what we don't like about the camera for sure. The A6500 proves to be a much faster camera, it's promising some new features like the Touch AF, Jordan's shooting on A6500 as well in S-Log2 because as you can see we've got a lot of hard contrasty light but I'm going to get out there in the skate park, take some shots, try out this new continuous autofocus, see what I think about that and then we're going with the rest of the view

 When it comes to the sports and action photography, the autofocusing capabilities, I still think that they're top notch, I mean really excellent, very, very fast, they track moving subjects, again my only issue is going to be that because the touch screen doesn't work so well, I'm still finding it very difficult to have a quick way of moving my focusing point around the screen and adjusting for fast action but it keeps up with subjects and I've never had a hard time with it, I think it does a great job for sports and action. The other thing that's nice that's welcome is the buffer change, I mean it's excessive now, the camera will shoot and shoot and shoot but it's nice to have that upgrade on there especially for the kind of photography that you might want to tackle. Other things I really like, the steady shot, now that's a big thing as well, Jordan did really appreciate that with video capabilities, takes out a lot of the jitters and for stills, although we've already had image stabilization in most of the zooms, this opens up a lot of third party glass capabilities and it opens up a lot of use with prime lenses so I say fantastic, I mean it's not the greatest steady shot in the planet, it works well, it's going to give you good stability but now that you get it with all lenses for video or stills, that is a big upgrade. So wrapping things up, I mean I do like some of the little changes they've made, I mean the grip is a little bit bigger, I think a lot of you guys are going to appreciate that, I love the EVF, the back screen is working great, although on that point Jordan didn't want me to mention that when you're shooting these cameras in 4K, the 6300 would go dark but for whatever reason, the 6500 screen goes even darker and that makes it really hard to use, especially in bright sunny locations like we're shooting in here over the last couple of days

 I'm not very impressed by the onboard flash either, on a $1,300 machine it's actually a bit tacky. I'm willing to forgive such fripperies on a $600 A6000 but not on a camera costing twice as much. It's there, it's OK but I would rather it not be there as there is precious little real estate on the camera as it is and a tiny flash is a waste of that real estate. I would rather just carry a nice small speedlight and be done with it

 I've manage to get much less on the a7ii mind you, so carry extras to be on the safe side. I've never managed to kill a battery on the a6500 but that is no indication as the a6500 is my specialty camera and the A7ii is my workhorse. I've often killed at least one FP40 and sometimes have succeeded in running the second into the yellow zone on the A7ii. One more time, bring extras

 With the a7ii I do use the battery grip, but this is more a function of the pathetic life span that the FP40s have on tap than anything else.  Unfortunately, this camera does use those self-same FP40, which are good for maybe 240 shots on a really good day. I've manage to get much less on the a7ii mind you, so carry extras to be on the safe side. I've never managed to kill a battery on the a6500 but that is no indication as the a6500 is my specialty camera and the A7ii is my workhorse

 It punches way above its weight in image quality, ease of use, portability, and general fun factor. It's compact size makes carrying it about a joy, not a chore. The only camera that can really match it in the ease of use department are the Cybershots that use the 1in sensor. But those are point and shoots that have smaller sensors and fixed lenses

Worth the investment.

 On a modest vacation day, I'll probably drain 2 batteries. So in reality, you'll need to charge a battery on its included charger, and charge the other one in your camera itself. In a better case scenario, having at least 3 batteries is the way to go.  Perhaps I'm still in the honeymoon stage of owning this, especially having upgraded from a really old model, but so far, it's fulfilled almost every wish I had in a camera, but most importantly, I'm simply blown away by the amount of features and customization crammed into it
