A good e-reader, not so good tablet

 I found that it was unusable as a reader due to weight and the need for a remote for page turn buttons. I am not going to sit my "book" on a stand, I want to change positions and "curl up with a book".  Being a tablet the battery life holds up way better than I would have predicted even if it is eink. One can add a keybord or mouse via USB OTG or bluetooth though again lag on typing

 The Forma changes orentation when I turn it. When I purchased this I did not expect the weight to bother me but it does when holding for a long time vs other ereaders like the Forma which has the same screen size. One must also touch the screen to change pages which is clunky, many users buy a remote control to turn pages and put the Nova 3 on a stand or table rather than hold it. This is very inconvenient

I am comparing this as an ereader to a Koba Forma. The Forma has side page turn buttons and weighs much less despite the same screen size. The Forma changes orentation when I turn it.  I'm open to a device that is 8 inches or larger, and ideally has a nicer screen. Some options I was considering were the Galaxy Tab S7+ used (tough to find under $400), or going the e-ink route with an Onyx Boox Nova 3.

I wanted to buy an e-reader to read books on because I read a lot, sometimes hours at a time and the e-ink format is better for your eyes. I have an iPad but for extended reading times the backlighting and blue light is bad for eyes. My only problem was I didn’t want to be boxed into buying an Amazon kindle or B&N nook reader that only supported their brand books and subscriptions.  After reading reviews of all the most popular ebook subscription services I settled on “Scribd” app because it had unlimited access for a cheap monthly subscription price to the most books, audiobooks and magazines from all the BIG NAME publishers which means you get lots of new releases

It's a bad choice, it's not for you. If you are going to read PDF documents, then you need a big screen as 6 inches is far too small and zooming and scrolling on an e-ink display is not a good experience. I would recommend getting a 7.8 inch screen as a bare minimum

Thing is, I have no plans on buying books ever but have my library (the books I want to read) in my computer already as a mixture of .pdf files and .epub books. I read that (at least before) Kindle has sort of discouraged external media and instead is pushing for people to buy books from the Kindle store and use it that way and that way only, therefor I'm guessing perhaps a Kindle is not the best option for me? Or has this perhaps changed over the years, the latest Kindle Whitepaper comes with USB-C, is the .epub / .pdf reading support good, if it has any? Any other options?

Need something that handles "slide-loaded material" (.epub / .pdf primarily) really well!

The main reason for me to buy it was the big screen. Business case: I had issues with PDFs (and most of books and docs I read are in PDF) where you can scale the page but the font could still remain small to read. It has gyro if the font is still small, you can tilt. Now I have a big screen with surface ~ 3 times bigger than 6" ebook reader and you can protect your eyes transferring documents you have to read on the laptop screen instead

 They are big, focused on reading, but have a browser built-in. My understanding is that the OS is a custom form of Linux, and is not something that you can put games on (it has a couple built in games like chess and sudoku).

Looking for an e-ink device for reading and light internet usage.

 E Ink (a company, not to be confused with the general concept of e-ink or digital ink) tried and failed with Triton from 2010 to 2013. In 2016, it came up with ACeP, which uses full-color pigments, but the page turn speeds are too slow for consumer ebook readers.

 That's not entirely their fault: Kaleido Plus still has serious issues with ghosting and page-turn speeds, which Pocketbook and Onyx deal with using opposite approaches. The InkPad Color's page turns are slow and you frequently see flash-heavy full refreshes. The Boox Nova3 Color is much speedier, but the ghosting problem is really bad. Nonetheless, until Kaleido Plus or equivalent panels can be produced in large quantities without those drawbacks, you're not likely to see a Kindle, Kobo, or Nook with a color e-ink screen, so these two products&mdash;flawed as they are&mdash;are the ones to consider for your color e-ink needs
