As far as note taking e readers go, there are quite a few options. Since you said you are going to use it for both reading and note taking, I would say to avoid Remarkable, Sony DPT line or Kobo Elipsa as they are only good at either one of them but not both. 
So, I would say a better option would be either a Likebook or an Onyx Boox device. Both of them are Android based and you will get the benefits of Android like using your own choice of reading app, easy sideloading of books by using multiple methods like via USB or autosyncing with Google drive etc. Among these two brands, Onyx devices have better software while Likebooks are slightly cheaper.
Now coming to the size, there are primarily three sizes, 7.8' or 10.3' or 13.3'. If you primarily read PDFs, don't go for a 7.8' size as it would make the text too small. If most of your books are in reflowable format such as epubs, then 7.8' will be fine. If you read a lot of PDFs, then decide the size based on the native size of the PDFs and your use case. If the PDFs you read are of A4 size and have narrow borders, then 13.3' will be a better choice for you. Otherwise, 10.3' will be a perfect size. Btw, the devices from Onyx have a split screen option so you can open a book of your choice on one side and notes on the other side which will be really helpful for taking bullet points while reading imo. If your workflow uses this a lot, then go for a 13.3' as the extra screen size really helps.
Now my personal recommendations for different screen sizes will be Onyx Boox Max Lumi for 13.3'. It's the best in that size. For 10.3' size, my suggestion will be to go for Boox Note 3. Even though Note air is also a great option in that size, I won't recommend it for your use case because you said you will use it on the go a lot. Considering the fact that it has E carta screen instead of Mobius screen, it is more susceptible to damage and the official case doesn't have a pen loop and the magnets in the pen are weak, it'll be easy to lose the pen too. Whichever device you buy, I would strongly recommend you to buy a nice flip cover with a loop for the pen. Hey !

I'm a french philosophy student, i'm in my fourth years and I read a LOT, every day ! But books are expensive, rare ( yes ! some is hard to found at "normal" price, even in France ) and heavy ! i can't take them when i'm on travel ! ( and having multiple book in my bag when i go to the school is heavy, not really comfortable )

I tried to read on my laptop but my eye going lazy really fast and i can't read in a park when the sun is out ! ( and the battery is also a problem haha ) 

So i want to know if you have some suggestion for a good e.reader for my utilization ! i also need to take many notes when i read a book, also he had to be solid, i need him H24 on my bag haha

A big screen is a plus because i'm also a weeb, if i can read some fun manga on it when i have a hegel-burnout is really cool haha ! ( a big storage or micro SD compatibility is a plus !! ) 

The price is not a problem if he's justify ( my birthday is soon and i have money from my summer job ), i see this more like an investment for my studies haha

E.reader for a philosophy student ?

I took the leap of faith with a Likebook P6 - after mulling it over and over - and having it in my pocket was such a gamechanger that I got an Onyx Boox Nova 3 almost right away!. The ability to have Android on board; read and annotate books from a variety of stores and have access to all my databases and notes is a game changer for me. I needed something pocket-sized: the P6 is perfect, but when I got the Boox I realised that speed is really important.

Also knowledge-worker type here; also in UK. I can't answer your specific question, but I would say go for it! I took the leap of faith with a Likebook P6 - after mulling it over and over - and having it in my pocket was such a gamechanger that I got an Onyx Boox Nova 3 almost right away!

The ability to have Android on board; read and annotate books from a variety of stores and have access to all my databases and notes is a game changer for me. I needed something pocket-sized: the P6 is perfect, but when I got the Boox I realised that speed is really important. Responsiveness is key, and there's always a slight lag anyway due to the way eink works. (The P6 is fine for a reader, but not for any sustained writing, for example)

A question that many people have asked before me, and many people will ask again. I have watched Voja's videos on both. I'll admit I'm still stuck on this decision and thought I will ask for a few more opinions before I take the plunge. Both seem like great options, so I'm not sure there's exactly a right answer!  


Plans for use: I am an academic so I plan on using the device to read papers (pdf), some light ebook reading, and taking notes from when I'm in the lab or in meetings or from the papers I'm reading. I am looking forward to reading outside.   


I am not oposed to a back light, nor am I opposed to having a more full android experience like you would get on the Boox. I am drawn to the Boox for the added functionality and the option to load on things like spotify for music whilst I read etc. However the design aesthetic of the pens and the writing experience on the Supernote looks awesome, and the community support seems great.   


I am aware that I will probably need to spend more on a second pen. Also important to note that I am in the UK so where relevant I will have to pay import tax. 

Has anyone here had the opportunity to try both? What are people's thoughts on these devices and any opinions on what may be more suitable for my use case scenario?

Supernote A5X or Boox Note Air - choice for academic?

I now carry only this, not a couple of paperbacks, a notebook and a pen. The battery life is phenomenal! I read 3-4 hours a day 5 days a week with frequent interruptions (work, what can you do?) so it often powers off and the battery is still 50%-60% at the end of the week! The ability to change the screen lighting makes it easy on the eyes, the bluetooth connection works well with ear buds but I've only been able to bluetooth tether it to my phone once. The Wi-Fi tether works like a champ every time. My only "complaints" are: 1) setting up the google play store (for the nook and Kindle apps) is frustrating if you don't, as I did not, read the instructions (the reboot is, in fact, necessary!) 2) Every time I would tether the device the location would automatically turn on (this has been alleviated with the latest update but contrary to the update notes, location is NOT turned off by default

Received a HiSense Hi Reader yesterday, all the way from China. Had previously used an Inkpalm 5, which I liked but found to be a bit slow.

- Inkpalm 5 - it’s small and light, side buttons seem to be where your hand would be naturally, but is it tiring to have such small screen for novel reading (although I have read novels on my iPhone), and does it matter that its android 8? Also gen 2 doesn’t seem like too much of a change? But it’s hard to tell and the aliexpress seller is happy to put it into English but not sure that means it’s the gen 2.
