Now there's a number of improvements over the previous Kraken generations, and they come together to make a very compelling CPU cooler. Let's take a look

 I've always been iffy on AIOs. They've always promised better performance than air, but then I run my benchmarks and it turns out more like… sort of better performance in certain metrics as compared to air. But NZXT's latest AIO, the Kraken X53, handily stops that trend. Howdy howdy guys, Ponchato here, and today we're checking out the Kraken X53 Liquid Cooler provided by NZXT

5 degrees, and the Deepcool Assassin 3 by more than 2. When you're dealing with the highest end air coolers available, that is a significant difference in noise adjusted performance. Bravo to NZXT, this is very impressive. So the Kraken X53 is the strongest cooler I've tested and also the most noise efficient, both by a pretty big margin

 Now there's a number of improvements over the previous Kraken generations, and they come together to make a very compelling CPU cooler. Let's take a look. The X53 was released recently in January of 2020 for around $130 USD. It's compatible with every major socket today, AM4, LGA1151, 2066, the upcoming LGA1200, and Threadripper sockets

NZXT Kraken X53: Changing My Mind About AIOs [FINALLY!]

 Considering a cheap cpu fan often benchmarks better than a lot of expensive aio’s… but worth the buy in my case (ha). Just makes your PC look even cooler (ha again).

Aesthetics are the main selling point

 72 degrees is not the best in class, but not by a long shot, but it's already something. But what about that badly performing fan? Well, we have two possibilities right now. First, the fans are actually that bad and everything else is underperforming or everything is nicely balanced and you wouldn't get any performance out of this anyway. Well, it's pretty easy to find out

 You see, I do not own a Kraken X53 non-RGB, so the slightly older version. But to compensate that, I read the spec sheet of each and every previous version before I start with the new one. And there is one really big issue that I have with these fans here, because the original X53 comes with two Air P120 fans. So pressure optimized 2000 RPM fans that blow with 73 CFM at almost 3mm H2O

 We always redo all of our all-in-one benchmarks with a couple of Arctic P12s. First, we tested the original setup, so simply replace the air RGB with P12s and the X53 managed to get the CPU down a tiny bit more to 71 degrees C. Okay, okay, so the fans are not perfect, but how much can we actually squeeze out? With the all-in-one sandwich with twice the original fan amount, the X53 got the 7300X down to 70 degrees C. So from out of the box to completely sandwiched, we are looking at a mere 2 degrees C difference

NZXT Kraken X53 RGB Review | Best 240mm AIO ?

I bought this x53 to cool my Ryzen 9 5950x, which ran a bit hot. Before I bought this, my idle temps were around 55. After buying this product, my idle temps are around 32, and I haven't seen them go over 60 even when I run pretty demanding software (cyberpunk, Cinebench, etc.)

Great Cooler

 In case you do have an issue, contact NZXT support and they'll provide a usb hub that works as a workaround until they can roll out Krakens with the permanent fix built in or whatever.  One more thing to be aware of is that unlike what the manual says there are only 2 viable installation directions if you are planning on the screen facing right side up. It's true that there is a way to rotate the image through the NZXT CAM software but if it isn't installed in one of the aforementioned orientations then unfortunately it wont be able to rotate it to the correct orientation which seems like an odd limitation but it is what it is.  Okay so the performance of this cpu cooler is good, but I was honestly expecting just a bit more cooling efficiency from this latest pump design but it misses the mark by a non-insignificant amount

 Since I took that measurement, I did let my motherboard automatically tune the CPU to what it thought would be a safe and reasonable overclock, so the temp may be a bit higher now. That took me from 3800MHz to 4000MHz, and it seems to be doing just fine under those circumstances.  My final thought is that mounting the fan to the heatsink was trickier than it should have been. The directions were fantastic, EXCEPT for the part where they show the clips going on to the fan, and how it should be attached to the heatsink

 The heat sink itself almost butts up against the tempered glass side panel.  How does it cool? From what I can tell, it is doing a fantastic job thus far, with my idle CPU temps around 45C/113F. Larger than expected and a little tricky to mount the fan

 What is up guys, we're back with another video and today we're checking out this CPU cooler right here This is the scythe mug and five rev see and we actually took a look at the original mug and five all the way back in 2017 and we really liked it here. We have a new fan new mounting system, but you get the same single tower design So let's go ahead and take a look Taking a first look at the mug and five Rev See it actually has the same overall design as the original mug and five I'll go ahead and put the official dimension sort of like right here. Well, this is not the largest cooler that we've seen It's definitely a large cooler when it comes to you know, air coolers and it weighs in at 900 grams at the front of the Cooler we have the new case flex to PWM fan this is a 120 millimeter fan that spins up to 1500 rpm with a max airflow of 67.62 CFM in a max noise level of 28

 We're gonna be doing our installation on an Intel z4 90 system So this installation should be pretty much the same across all of Intel 1150, 1151, 1155, 1200, and 1700 sockets The first thing you're gonna want to do is take the Intel backplate and put it through the back of the motherboard Lining up the screws with the holes in your motherboard by default our backplate was set for LGA 1700 but it's easy to move the screws to set it for LGA 1200 now go ahead and find the Intel spacers and put them on top of the screws now these only go in one direction So the side with the rubber should go down onto your motherboard Once these are installed find the main Intel mounting bars. These are actually different than the LGA 1700 mounting bars attach these to each side of the CPU socket securing them with the included thumb screws install the included thermal paste Remove the fan from the heatsink and then carefully place the heatsink on top of your CPU Lining up the screws with the holes in the mounting bars using the included screwdriver secure the cooler You'll have to put the screwdriver down in the opening in the cooler to access the second screw Finally go ahead and attach the fan using the included fan clips and be sure to plug it into the CPU fan header on your Motherboard with everything installed we can see that we have a 100% RAM clearance So this is a great cooler if you do have RGB memory when it comes to testing We run three different tests recording both temperatures and sound levels Our first test is our idle test which is taken on the Windows 10 desktop and then we have our load one test Which is 8 of 64 system stability test with just the CPU selected and then our load to test is the same 8 of 64 system stability test with both the CPU and FPU selected before we jump into testing here are the specifications of our test system So At the end of the day I think Scythe really has a great cooler here in their Mugen 5 rev C now in our first Idle to our first load test actually it kind of was in the middle of the pack But in our second load test, which is the more intense load test It actually was our third best cooler, which I think is really good Considering that this is a single tower single fan cooler Whereas the other coolers that perform better are dual tower dual fan coolers, and they're much much bigger So being that this is a single tower cooler. It's actually extremely easy to install. We went through installation No problem super super easy You know and one thing that's really great about this cooler too is those big air coolers They typically cover your memory here our memory is not being covered So if you do have RGB memory, you shouldn't have to worry about it being covered up by your CPU cooler also because we have a single fan the fan is extremely quiet as well as this thing's not going to sound like a rocket ship taking off or Anything like that and I think one of the best things that this cooler has going for it is its price right now It's 56

5 millimeters that means you won't run into any issues when it comes to case side panels The heat pipes have an asymmetrical design meaning that they angle back which ensures that the heatsink and fan won't cover your memory slots Looking at the back of the cooler We can get a better look at the heatsink stack and how the heat pipes go up into the stack itself At the top of the cooler We can see that the top heatsink fin has the scythe logo on it and we can see all the heat pipes coming out Of the top if we flip the cooler over we can get a better look at the heat pipes in the base There are six nickel plated copper heat pipes that start at the base of the cooler and go up into the heatsink in a U Fashion which is pretty standard when it comes to tower coolers The base of the cooler is actually pretty thick and there's actually a small heatsink built into it looking at the base We have a very nice finish. Although machining marks are definitely visible. Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. C CPU Cooler Review

 Oh Yeah, that's the stuff the newly only unifan al 120 daisy chain to each other for simplified installation and handling Connected by a single cable exit for clean cable management with beautiful blade interior and exterior ARGB illumination on both black and white models that are fully controllable through the software for RPM and all the cool looking effects check out the unifan al 120 down below Okay with that out of the way I think that the most important thing of any scythe cooler is the price now I'm gonna reach off screen here and bring this guy in because this is my all-time favorite cooler Which we covered a while ago. This is the fuma 2 now just 60 bucks for me everything about this from low-noise performance to the installation to everything else is Perfect. Now these two coolers over here are actually sort of following in that same line as the fuma 2 So on one hand the regular mugan 5 revision B goes for about 50 bucks Sometimes you can find it for a little bit less now the black edition tax on a $10 premium at 60 bucks, but that might sound like a big premium But it puts it in line actually a little bit cheaper than the u12 s the standard one and actually $20 cheaper than the chrome max that when you're talking about $60 coolers and $50 coolers is a huge amount of money, but what are you actually getting for that extra cash? Well, of course you get this sexy blackout design sort of like what Noctua did with that chromax lineup that I mentioned a couple seconds ago anyways The biggest change here is what I mentioned before which is that update to the fan It's still labeled as a case flex 120 But instead of running at a maximum 1200 rpms that it does on the revision B This one kicks things up by a small notch to 1500 rpm now from a speed perspective Hiking the rotational speed by only 300 rpm might not sound like much But it results in a pretty substantial CFM uplift and increased static pressure across the entire RPM range so the black edition is technically louder than the revision B But it also moves a lot more air and for such a thick heatsink air movement is ultra important guys But other than that well the design is exactly the same as the moogan 5 Revision B it has a massively deep fin array with a few strategically placed indents here and there to reduce turbulence But the bigger highlight here is actually the fins They're some of the thickest I've ever seen on any Cooler not like the chintzy stuff a lot of the other companies use and unlike the fuma 2 there aren't any sharp edges remember Poor Eber cut himself on that thing while he was installing it and let me draw your attention to just one of the small Details on here, and that is how scythe terminates their heat pipes at the top I know it's a small thing but little things like this the quality of that Just goes a long way for me, and let's talk about the fan and the way it mounts to the cooler It does so with your regular fan clips, but there's some of the sturdiest fan clips.8 decibels Which is still ultra quiet and starting with 120 watts the noctua's here get great results And so does the fuma 2 which is still one of the best all-around air coolers in my opinion Meanwhile the Mugen 5 revision B gets a bit higher results than the fuma and overall It's just as good as the noctua's but the black edition ends up starting really strong at lower RPM levels and ends up pretty much tied with everything else even though it does get a little bit louder than the revision B But let's drill down a little bit to see what's happening a bit closer So normalize to 36 decibels And you can really see how scythe designed the Mugens and the fuma to deliver the best possible Temperatures at the lowest noise levels every one of their designs keeps up with heat sinks that tend to cost More but at the same time this kind of low just isn't enough to stress these higher-end coolers and moving on to 38 decibels Things tighten up even more since we're starting to reach the minimum operating temperature air coolers can achieve on this specific CPU and at 165 watts things get a little more interesting But once again, none of these coolers are gonna end up struggling especially the fuma 2 which posts just incredible numbers Right across the board the Mugen 5 revision B on the other hand ends up being a good four to five degrees hotter So I'm guessing we're seeing the effect of the dual tower Dual fan layout of the fuma 2 and that fan on the Mugen 5 black edition Well, it does make a pretty good impact and improves Temperatures by about two degrees or the standard design that puts it right in line with the u12s in terms of overall performance Again, though focusing in on low noise performance at just 36 decibels shows exactly Where the strengths of the Mugen 5 black lie? It's a killer option even at this higher wattage But some of the other coolers in these charts do start benefiting more at a bit higher noise levels Look, the Mugen still post great results since both of them stick to 65 degrees or less on a fairly hot running 165 watt thermal output but moving on to 260 watts and you'll start seeing even some of the best air coolers on the market like the u12s start to fail at over 105 degrees and they need high high fan speeds just to compensate the same can be said about the fuma 2 but moving to just 38 decibels results in comparatively ridiculously good numbers now the Mugen 5 Revision B actually did surprise me here too with some of the best numbers of the bunch But check out the black edition guys other than the fuma 2 I'd actually argue It's the best cooler here and it costs less than the Noctua's 2 I mean look at these numbers at just 36 decibels

So the Mougan series has been around forever The last couple of years has seen pretty much the same constant design and that's the one you're sort of seeing here This is the Mougan 5 Revision B that's out right now. Now what scythe has released is this one? This is the black edition and don't think that this is just a blackout version of the current revision B There's a little bit more going on here that allows it to have a little bit better performance Now these are based on some Legendary coolers and I want to talk all about them and the performance that you can expect from both of these guys Right after a message from our sponsor

 Look guys, I wouldn't recommend running over 90 constantly But on this platform, we also have to remember that thermal throttling starts at 110 degrees I also have to give a huge shout out here to the Arctic freezer 50 sure It's got gobs of plastic and some nasty looking RGB But right now it goes for just fifty five dollars on sale at Amazon US and even at 38 decibels The Mugens end up being competitive and in a group like this.  It's behind the highest performance coolers by a couple of degrees, and above budget coolers by a couple of degrees. The Mugen 5 ARGB actually seems to be a perfect reference for what I'd call exactly mid-range cooling performance. There are some things to note with the Mugen 5. First, once it's installed, it hangs very slightly past the rear edge of the mini-ITX motherboard I'm using here

 If you'll be using the controller, you need to plug in the SATA power adapter, LED cable adapter, and the reset switch if you'll be using that to control the LEDs.2 decibels at maximum speed. That's nearly identical to Seif's Fuma Revision B, which also has two 120mm fans in a very similar configuration. But the Mugen 5 is a decent bit louder than others I've tested, especially when compared to single-fan coolers

 I suspect it performs as well as much more expensive models based on the features and build quality.  Only issue, and its a major one for me, is that the cooler blocks off the top PCIe port. And its not even the cooler itself that's the problem, the fan mounting clip's tab removes around half a centimeter of clearance. With the clip removed there's just barely enough room

Easy to install and works well. Couldn't justify maintaining open loop water cooling system on 5 year old PC so got this. Honestly any reviewer claiming its "almost as good" must have owned a horrible water cooling setup. Still, this coolers performance is nothing to complain about

 I will see if they can send me a Stud Nut 8 screw for the 115X series of Intel processors so I can screw it correctly down to the motherboard. I can update my review if I am sent the correctlythreaded "Stud Nut 8" to correctly complete the installation.

 I can't stand there all day to push on the fan fins however. So I have contacted Scythe as of 830 PM Mountain Time March 18 2020. I will see if they can send me a Stud Nut 8 screw for the 115X series of Intel processors so I can screw it correctly down to the motherboard. UPDATED: After contacting Sythe they mailed out a new bag of screws within 24 hours and I received it within 4 days.  UPDATE 2 April 4 2020: I installed this into my computer case and after stress testing it for 30 minutes at 100% CPU load on an i-9990K chip with a 2080ti folding proteins in a room that is 75F, the temps are around 70C in a case with the side off and around 80-83C in a case enclosed but with just one small fan on the top of it and a small fan at the bottom. The at rest idle CPU temps were about 34C and all temps are about the same range as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo. This Scythe Mugen is definitely better than any liquid cooler I have used so I a not worried at all about it overheating

Product arrived with one motherboard mounting screw not having threads. UPDATED

 So if you are annoyed by your Ryzen stock cooler's incessant revving, this would be a possible fix. The thermals might not be the best in its class among air coolers running at full capacity for overclocked, power hungry CPUs, but due in part to having a single fan the noise level certainly is best in class.
