 As a reference point, Noctua rates this as suitable for mild overclocking on the unlocked Comet Lake processors and also fine for stock settings on the 3900x and even the 3950x AMD Zen 2 CPUs. Thermal performance of this unit is quite good. Fans were all oriented in the top down orientation which is how these coolers are designed to run best. I also threw in the AMD stock Wraith Prism cooler as a baseline just so you have an idea of the performance gain over the stock cooler

 It's not polished smooth by design so thicker thermal paste such as to include NTH1 should work best. When the heatsink is tightened down to the motherboard, the edges flatten out and this ensures even mounting pressure on the CPU surface. The Noctua includes both Intel and AMD mounting hardware in the box and the cooler is compatible with most mainstream Intel and AMD sockets at the time of this review in 2020, including AM4 and LGA1200. The cooler uses Noctua's SecuFirm2 installation system which consists of mounting bars that are screwed down to either the AMD stock backplate or an included Intel mounting plate

 Now it's not entirely apples to apples to compare the higher height mode to the others since the airflow is so much better with the fan on top, but even in low profile mode, it manages to edge out the Big Shuriken 3. Lastly, when a solid panel is installed, it does drop behind the Shadow Rock LP. Due to the form factor of the Shadow Rock LP, it did allow a 92mm fan to be directed at the cooler for intake and it does perform a lot better in that sense. Generally speaking, all these coolers are fairly close, but in a case with a mesh side panel, the L12S is clearly going to be the best choice

 Fans were all oriented in the top down orientation which is how these coolers are designed to run best. Testing in an open case against the Scythe Big Shuriken 3, the Be Quiet Shadow Rock LP and against AMD's stock cooler for the 3700x shows that the L12S in the high profile configuration is quite competent, basically uneven footing with the Scythe Big Shuriken 3, although the low profile configuration does drop it down somewhat. Let's move over to real world case testing

 The heatsink on the C14S has almost twice the mass of the L12S though and more heatpipes so naturally the C14S is a more capable device. These typically aren't needed unless you can't control speeds through your motherboard or BIOS or if you're running more than one fan off of a splitter on the same header and you want one to run at a lower speed than the other ones. Low Profile Air Cooler Roundup: Noctua NH-L12S Review

***Cooling*** I think is pretty OK. I don't have a beefy CPU, because I'm shallow and sort of care more about the design and finish of a build than incredible performance. I have a big Noctua NH-L12S heatsink with a Noctua 92 mm NF-A9 9 fan under it. Had to bend the heatsink somewhat to make it work with my motherboard's IO shield

 However I can't recommend this cooler unless you have VERY specific needs. I was building a gaming pc in a silverstone case which was the smallest that could fit a micro atx motherboard. So given this the PSU is directly over the cpu cooler, I didn't want the cpu heatsink to fight for air with the PSU. So a cooler design with a fan that faced upwards was essential, I of course went with my old standby Noctua

.. why would you even do that? As far as build quality goes, it's the usual noctua way. Everything is dirty and there is absolutely nothing negative to say here

 Out of the box, this little thing is compatible with the standard AM4 socket as well as everything older until the FM1 socket for Team AMD. Over on the blue side of the world, we get support for the latest and greatest LGA1700, going back to the older LGA1150s, 2066, 2011-0 and dash 3. Just keep in mind that Noctua still isn't able to break any space-time continuum, therefore, LGA1700 socket extras will only be included for coolers produced while or after Q4 of 2021. The fan used on here is kinda special, the Noctua NF812X15

Noctua NH-L12S Review - Best SFF CPU COOLER

This thing is quiet and runs great! I love how quiet this GPU is. The pump is nice and quiet as well. I tried the Noctua nh-l12s, Blackridge with 25mm fan, the Thermalright axp-100 pure copper with 25mm fan, and this AIO.

Finally found a Metalfish t40 with all metal side panels. 5900x/120mm aio/rtx 2060 and my first ever console controller.

  Do not use this in a standard case, look for a case that allows side intake so the cooler is able to draw from cool outside air or an intake can can be places to push cool outside air to the cooler. Works well in a Cooler master NR200 with fan top mounted and a 120mm fan on the side intake rail. This also goes for the Cougar QBX. However while it works okay with a Lian Li TU150 it is not optimal as in the other two mentioned cases

 Full load only increased 6 degrees Celsius from 58 to 64, and that was at 1050 RPM. And the really cool thing is from idle to full load, there was no noticeable noise increase sitting right next to the case. So I asked, was it worth 50 of your dollars to upgrade from the stock Wraith Stealth to the NH-L12S? Well, if temperature is your only concern, I'd actually say no. Both performed reasonably well, and you have to remember they're both rated at 65W TDP

I went ahead and installed a NZXT M22 paired with a slim 120mm Noctua fan since all other cooling solutions (Asetek 645LT and Alpenfohn Black Ridge) failed to keep my 3900X (in ECO mode) to normal temps. Currently, with a room temp of (approximately) 25C, the CPU idles to 37 and maxes to 75C when running a couple of rounds of Cinebench R23, while the Asetek was struggling to keep it under 90C.

So I proceeded to go ahead and take it all apart, drain it completely, put distilled water in it, which it has now, no sloshing, no gurgling, we filled it completely up. And so now what we're going to do, I'll show you a little bit of that process, but then we're going to plug it back into a system and see what happens now. If you're seeing this video, it might've been successful or that might just be the preamble to throwing it in the garbage or in the trash can

 So that doesn't look, yeah, that doesn't look really good. So I'm going to clean it up, put everything back together, see what happens.  We took it out, we replaced it because it was making an awful racket and it was idling at about 95 C, which is horrible, yeah, there's just no excuse for that. So right away we figured there was a problem. I went ahead in the first video, we cleaned up the fan, we cleaned up the radiator, we did everything, we pasted, tried it out, still a problem. Second video I went ahead and I took the motor itself, the motor assembly out of the back of the radiator and NZXT has a little bit different than your basic Asetek motor

 But so far, so good. No noise, temps are down, idles well, and even under stress, it seems to do very, very well. So overall, very happy with it. It works out very, very well

Round 3 with NZXT. One last look at the Kraken M22 All-in One cooler. I mean it this time!

Excellent Cooler System

 Unfortunately, I was not able to reach my expected temp goals with the Corsair H60i. We can argue that the NZXT has a larger radiator and dual fans where the Corsair has one fan and a smaller radiator, but I would think that it still should be efficient enough to keep the temps at a more stable number. However, for this processor, I do recommend the Kraken especially if you can only fit 2 fans. I am sure there is better, but this works for me

 So in a real world environment, none of these all in ones are really distracting from a meter away, but if you listen very closely, the M22 is the least distracting cooler. So when it comes to performance and efficiency in a real world environment, NZXT is the winner for now, even though it was just by a single degree. So to sum everything up, in my opinion, this is a great product. Build quality is amazing, design is out of this world and everything has that NZXT cleanness going on

2 GHz, and then we started with a few tests. First off would be all in, so we fired up heavy load and started to grill our CPU. And after a good 30 minutes run, we found that the M22 actually won this round with one single degree Celsius. But of course, this is still within the margin of error, so I would say that the Cougar Aqua and the M22 are somewhat the same when on a full load

 Now on the negative side though, I think the Aero should definitely be on the fan, because there will be people out there doing it wrong. And I think that it is a pity that they didn't make the M22 mountable with the original AM2 brackets. It would just make it way easier and convenient. Now on the price side, the Kraken can be bought for around 80 dollars on Amazon US and 70 euros in Europe, affiliate and manufacturer links in the description
