I have a friend who bought binoculars well over a thousand dollars that are heavy and as I can personally tell, are no better visually or for seeing precise colors than these Monarch 5 binoculars! I bought the 8 x 42's which are better for my eyes and the type of wildlife watching that I like to do! 9. If you watch only things up-close like butterflies, moths, dragonflies or flowers, get a pair of bino's that have a 5 to 6 feet close focus distance

 The case is nice! I don't use the neck strap though as I had neck surgery a few years ago. I bought the ones that go around your shoulders and back. That way there is no weight put on my neck!  It's a personal thing for me about the 8.2 ft close focus distance. Caps are a minor, physical problem with the binocular accessories! Bino's themselves are worth every penny!

Monarch 5 - 8 x 42's great for bird watching

I'm an avid outdoorsman and have been wanting to get into bird watching, hunting, and just general exploring/tracking of animals. I have never had a good set of binos but have had a couple of \~$30 ones. My dad knew I was looking to get a good pair and he did a bunch of research which landed him on the Monarch 5.

 Viewing the Orion region with either binocular is an inspiring experience, but more so with the Bushnell’s larger FOV. Image brightness of the Nikon and the Bushnell, as judged by the ability to see faint stars in the Orion region, is the same. Unless the Nikon name, lower weight, compactness and close focus are over-riding considerations, the Bushnell, at 30% of the prize of the Nikon, is the much better deal.

 This is very good. The Bushnell FOV is 8.2 degree (65 degree apparent FOV) is considerable larger than that of the Nikon, but the sharpness falls off outside of a 5 degree diameter (64%). When wearing glasses the usable FOV of the Bushnell and the Nikon is the almost the same due to the better eye relief of the Nikon

 The image quality of the Nikon and the Bushnell based on stars is similar and excellent, but the response to making focus adjustments with the Bushnell is not as crisp as with the Nikon.  The much larger separation of the objective lenses of the Bushnell (due to the poro prism design) make for much more 3D viewing of landscapes than with the Nikon (roof prism design). The Nikon and the Bushnell both have a ¼-20 threads to attach to a tripod, but the wider separation of the objective lenses make the attachment to a tripod easier for the Bushnell. The protective eyepiece caps of the Bushnell fit just right, while those of the Nikon are too big and tend to fall off too easily

Nice and compact, but optically only slightly better than the physically larger and heavier Bushnell 8x42

 If you are looking for a pair, I highly recommend you get one with this type of prism instead of the old style (Porro prism) design.

Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 is a an excellent bino and would get my vote. It's quite sharp and very good abberation control.

Help me choose between these 2 binos: ZEISS Pocket 8x25 vs Vortex 8x32

Most important, the binoculars are not as clear as you would expect for the price. The first order I received was clearly pre owned. I did send them back and reordered the exact same item thinking that the previous owner probably sent them back for the same reason. The replacement order had the same problem

Very disappointing.
