 The First thing: I Think we should do is say you know what do you want in headphone, like what do you like about your headphones. Well I want them to sound good, well everybody wants everything to sound good, what does that mean, right,? uh, the frequency response of this and all that and you can get in to a lot of technical jargon, I'm not going to do that, but I am going to touch on some key specific points about the technicality about different frequencies in headphones, how they relate,, how they respond as they're on your head, open back headphones versus closed back headphones. So Stay with me for a minute but before we go to all of that, I'm going to tell you what I've been using that are awesome and I mean awesome. These are the NDH 20s by Neumann and I'm going to, I'm going to discuss why these are so cool

 So If you've noticed for you singers out there, you've got headphones on and you're going,. my pitch royally sucks right now. I For some reason, I can scream and sing high and kind of get pitch in the upper register, but or or I'm flat as heck. You know when I'm singing up because I can't hear myself, one or the other right? and then when I get into lower registers, I just can't hear myself

What Headphones I Use And Why - Neumann NDH 20 - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

Headphones sounded great - very good isolation, good frequency response, and pretty un-muddied despite being closed-back. Sonically great, but uncomfortable

 What we are after is accuracy, and this means across the entire audio spectrum. We can't use exaggerated low end or hyped high end, and we certainly can't use dramatically filtered high end. We can hear the high end, but as if attenuated. There was absolutely no "air" in the sound -- no clarity

 The difference was so stark that we did not bother comparing with the significantly better open-back Sennheiser HD 600 headphones. (Sennheiser and Neumann have been a part of the same parent company for many years now, though the differences between the two sets of products can be radical.)  It is immediately obvious that these Neumanns are significantly bulkier and heavier than most headphones which I have worn. I did not wear them long enough to gauge how this works out after lengthy usage, but I would give them a middle-of-the-road grade so far as comfort

Neumann is an old and respected brand, and at $499, the NDH 20 headphones are expensive without being prohibitive. In my opinion, however, these headphones are a distinct disappointment. According to the description, they are supposed to exhibit "linear sound balance" and offer "transparent sound". They did not claim to be "accurate", but that is what I interpreted these two statements to mean, and that's certainly what is needed for "monitoring and mixing tasks," also written in the description

 It's hard to say whether the low end on the the NDH 20s is balanced, as there seemed to be almost no high end at all. The expression "they sounded like a blanket had been draped over them" fits very well here -- shocking. What we are after is accuracy, and this means across the entire audio spectrum. We can't use exaggerated low end or hyped high end, and we certainly can't use dramatically filtered high end

Reference Headphones? I didn't think so...

So good! They don’t overhype any particular frequency range. They block out most room noise. Love these for all purposes including music, gaming, movies. I own a few other midrange headphones and these are my go to for everything! They are fairly comfortable

 The earpads feel great. I’ve tried replacing them with 3rd party pads but the sound degrades. The stock pads are the best pads…except they are poorly stitched. In just a year daily use (bedroom use, no traveling), BOTH pads’ stitching detached and the foam inside popped out

 So at the end of the day, the Norman Indy H20 is going to get a good review for me because just the clothes back market is so bad. Finding anything that is even remotely acceptable like I said is is pretty big to me they sound pretty decent. They do some things well like I mentioned I like them a lot for Strings but and I like them a lot more on tube. So for you have to have a really, really isolating clothes back for listening to music, I would try to get these on some sort of tube amp but try them on solid state and where I think these are really gonna fall into like the market more

 When I was using these for monitoring I had you know the client for the project that was on there asked what what had phones were those because you know they're flashy and they stay honest. Other Norman they're like oh Norman then you know they know what Norman is. So I think that's really what they're Niches: These have that really fancy brand name because Norman has that name of high-end high-end microphones. High-end monitors

 But to me, if you're in it for actual music, I Would say this is probably their closest competitor would be this or the EMU teks. Now these are kind of more semi open and they do leak a decent amount of sound Where these are very, very isolating. these block out a lot of sound As a good monitoring headphone should, but the X-hundred is a lot more dynamic. It's certainly bass here, and it's also certainly quite a bit brighter

In fact, I'm so happy with the quality of the sound (which blows away my next nicest pair) that I'm already looking forward to finding something new. My setup is simple: Schiit Stack (Magni 3+ & Modi). I currently own: Audio Technica M50x (my first baby), Sennheiser HD 6XX, and the DT 1990s.

 So if you've got a really big head like that, it'll, it'll actually still work for you. Now these do clamp on your head pretty tight. I'm a huge fan of the clamp force on this. I think it's very, very comfortable

 It's going to be depending on the game and how you play. Another question that I know I'm going to be getting a lot, 6XXs or 660s. And here's the thing. My thoughts on this are with the 6XXs and the 600, you get this texture and this detail, but you also get this odd sense of smoothness to the sound

 So this is probably going to be a longer video if you want to skip to any particular part, go ahead and jump here and that'll get you to wherever you want to go. That being said, the quick and dirty of this review is buy this headphone if you've never heard 6XXs before, if you've never heard HD600s before, if you want to hear what a basic representation of neutrality is, this is a great, great headphone, especially at the price of $200. Now one thing to factor in is that the HD6XX is a very, very popular headphone, which is actually part of the reason why I recommend getting it is because it kind of offers a very good reference for a lot of people who have heard that headphone and it makes it easier for people to compare based off of that reference, if that makes any sense at all. But one thing you should be aware of is that there have been reports of very, very long waits because these are so popular

 Starting off, these are a $220 USD or about $310 AUD headphones. They're in the lower end of the mid-tier headphone range and in some ways are only a small step above some of the entry-level audiophile headphones such as the Beyerdynamic DT 880, Sennheiser's own HD 58X and the new 560S that I haven't heard yet. So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy

 One of them is you might be looking at it brand new or second hand and you might be looking for an additional review and the other reason being that if you've watched my channel for a while and you're looking at other reviews and you happen to know the 6XX you'll get a better sense of how I hear things, what I like and don't like and it'll help you to use my reviews more effectively in the future. So here we go, let's have a chat about the HD 6XX. Starting off, these are a $220 USD or about $310 AUD headphones.  Overall though what I found was that the 4XX kind of was a little bit in no-man's land between the two. It didn't have the impact and bass of the DT880 that I sometimes wanted and at the same time didn't have the mid-range clarity and presence of the 6XX. So it sort of got lost in between the two and realistically I cut their listening quite short because I would either choose the 6XX or the DT880 and the 4XX didn't really come into play. That's not to say that the 4XX doesn't have its own merits but in this particular scenario I would choose either the 6XX or the DT880 before I'd reach for the 4XX

 So there's some pretty stiff competition and the need to justify their higher price given that there's some great competition for about $50 USD less. Talking briefly about the design, these are a very simple headphone they're made of plastic but they do feel sturdy. Scott reckons he's got about 700,000 hours on these, I'm guessing that's an exaggeration but they still look pretty good, you can't tell that they've been a daily driver and a workhorse they still have a good look and feel to them. That speaks to the quality and the longevity of this design despite being quite plasticky

Massdrop X Sennheiser HD6XX Headphone Review - Is it still a winner?

I used these things mercilessly for 15 years, gaming and even sleeping with them on. They still work like new. You cannot go wrong with Sennheiser HD6xx or 58x series cans.

Bought these off of a gentleman who told me he's had these sence they were new and had used them daily untill he needed to sell them. After reading some of the literature I find out everything's printed 1997 (that's older than I am). Got a different cable to reduce some length (old one works great still) new pads and a headband and there still my best sounding cans. Hopefully they'll go onto my kids

1997/1998 Sennheiser hd600

They really shine with audiobooks, studying/focus, and shows/movies. I usually prefer wired headphones like Sennheiser 6XX for music but for noise cancellation and the rich bass, these make an excellent wireless bluetooth option!! Focus/study will be improved for sure wearing them. No issues with any genres I can tell, better than most Bluetooth cans out there.
