We have the MSR Elixir 2 and love it, the vestibules provide plenty of room for gear, the two doors are nice so you don't have to crawl over each other, and it goes up and down quickly. It's not quite as light as some of the more expensive options, but it's definitely usable for backpacking.

Best Budget Backpacking Tent of 2022 - GearLab

You should however take care when pitching your tent. Keep the doors out of the wind, give as little surface to the wind as possible, use GOOD stakes and use all the guy lines and tie outs available. Keep the fly as low as possible to the ground on the wind facing side. Remember to keep the guy lines tight - Nylon will stretch significantly when wet and under load

 And I'd very much stay clear of trees, try to find a spot that has some natural protection (rocks, stable walls, bushes, etc).

I regularly camp in areas with 30-50mph(50-80kph) sustained wind gusts.

Any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive 2-3 person tent that can handle some wind? I rarely camp more than a couple miles from the car so I don't need an ultralight or anything. 

I'm currently using an old 3 pole Kelty which handles the wind much better than my friends fancier tents. After many years of service it's on its last legs.

Tents for windy conditions?

 Only downside is: it’s NOT an ultralight. I believe the weight is around 5 lbs , so if you want to do more extreme hiking I would consider something lighter. Otherwise- good purchase.[URL REMOVED]

MSR Hubba NX Tent ?

 The only thing I do not like about this tent is the room inside. It's a 2 person, very clearly, only for two people, 3 people will fit, but man would I be claustrophobic. The tent inside, like most backpacking tents, has very little head room. Sitting up is doable but the roof of the tent is literally less than an inch away from the top of my head(I'm 6 foot tall)

 Let me say though, that this tent seems bullet proof, very well constructed, light, and easy to setup all by yourself.

Great tent, but small inside.

 Again, manage ur buying decisions carefully I have a cot in it for only myself and it barely fits, I’m 5’10 175lbs and I wouldn’t want my wife in it with me over night :)

Decent depending on usage

 A tent of this calibre would have been closer the $1000 ten years ago if it were available at all.

MSR Elixir 2 tent

A number of leading ultralight tents are built with Dyneema—the high-tech fabric commonly used in boat sails and praised for its strength-to-weight ratio—and the Zpacks Duplex is best in class. With an incredibly low all-in weight of just 1 pounds 5 ounces (counting stakes and using two trekking poles for support), it’s by far the lightest tent here, yet still sleeps two and includes a bathtub floor for protection from the elements. In use, we found the Zpacks to feel decently roomy for its weight with a 48-inch peak height, and you can adjust the dimensions fairly easily depending on the campsite and conditions. In the end, no ultralight tent is perfect, but the Duplex is a high-quality option that has been relied upon by serious thru-hikers for years.

What are the shortcomings of the Zpacks Duplex? We’ve had no issues with water entering the tent—even while camping in snow—but the open sides and thin materials definitely can make it feel drafty in certain conditions. Second, with a trekking pole design you don’t get the steep walls of tents like the Copper Spur above, making the Zpacks a feasible but cramped option for two backpackers. And third, setting up the tent is more complicated than with a freestanding model, so we recommend practicing before heading out to make sure you know how to get a taut, even pitch. I want bug protection and rain protection because I don't like bugs (f ticks) and sleeping out gives me the creeps sometimes, so not really into the tarp and bivy. It seems to me like the Zpacks Duplex (occasionally bring my wife or a friend) would be a good option, being 19oz and having bug and rain protection integrated (not a tarp or bivy system, so it's simpler i.e. one piece)

Gossamer The Two vs. Zpacks Duplex

 One of the biggest benefits to the Dynamo material is that it's waterproof. This tent is 100 waterproof. I've never had any sort of leaking. I've had no issues

 You don't have to worry about the coatings aging and having to be reapplied. There's very little here with this tint that's going to age and that's not the case with copycat versions of this tent. I know that I've said a lot in regards to this tent, so let me wrap this up. in the end: this is a very impressive tint

 So I won't go into any more specs on it because I'm sure you can find a lot of information out there about it. Let's talk about my opinion of this tent after 3,000 miles on the trail and what I like about it and what I don't like about it. ZPacks Duplex 3,000+ Mile Review

 However, the ONE thing that is bad about BOTH tents is the way the end tie outs are sewn and sealed. The tents BOTH leak at the tie out points. This is due to the way they are sealed. It seams as if the seam seal was applied FIRST and then the tie outs sewn into the fabric

UPADATED AGAIN: I have purchased both the 1 and 2 person tent. Seems like very well quality and lightweight. However, the ONE thing that is bad about BOTH tents is the way the end tie outs are sewn and sealed. The tents BOTH leak at the tie out points

 The tent leaked at both ends where the tie outs are sewn into the fabric. These points are seam sealed, so I do not know why or how it leaked at both points. The water on the floor of the tent was about the size of a quarter. I have since sprayed all of the fly seams and the tie out points with silicone treatment
