Best Backpacking Tent of 2022 - GearLab
The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 strikes a superb balance between competing factors. It is spacious enough for two people to sleep comfortably but remains lightweight and packs down small. As a top overall option in our review, it embodies what many backpackers are looking for in a backpacking tent....
This compliment about our home repair tickles me so much I printed it to keep with our camping scrapbook
Big Agnes customer service is phenomenal. I snapped a pole and ripped a hole in the rain fly of my brand new Copper Spur UL2 two weeks before a big trip while test pitching it. I overnighted it to them, and they fixed it and overnighted it back, free of charge. Took less than a week all said and done.
Advertised floor dimensions incorrect
Just purchased this tent and set it up inside. Put two 72 x 20 x 1 inch Thermarest pads in it and carefully measured the ‘interior’ floor dimensions. I came up with floor widths of 49.5 inches at head-side edge and 40 inches at foot-side edge. floor length is 83.5 inches along the long edge of the f...
Good, not great.
The floor print doesn’t match the poles the way the tent holes do. A major flaw, since the tapered holes on the tent hook the poles in so they don’t slip out, a primary feature of the new 2020 version. The tent needs 4 more stakes, as it’s shy of all the stakes needed. The door canopy is just a gimm...
Nice upgrade! Converted a 2 man tent user.
I have to say I was apprehensive about getting a 1 person tent. I have tried other brands and even the original copper spur ul1 and was not a fan. I just never seemed to have enough room in 1 person tents. However, Big Agnes got it right with this model! First off I love the new fabric and the olive...

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 (2020) Tent Review — Into the Backcountry
Overall the Copper Spur UL2 by Big Agnes is a well-designed tent.
Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Review
In the end though, it’s the smaller details that really won me over, like the quick stash door compartments, lots of pockets, and a well needed top vent for my humid local environment. Despite skimping a bit on the included tent stakes, and a couple minor quibbles, the Copper Spur HV UL2 is hands down the best ultra-light shelter I’ve ever tested, and I can without hesitation recommend it to anyone who is serious about backpacking. Pockets - The Copper Spur has three well designed and useful pockets. Each side has a rectangular pocket by the head and there’s one large rectangular top pocket as well. This isn’t the most important detail in a tent, but these pockets are very convenient, and we think they’re some of the best of any tent we’ve tested
