My criteria for the tent thereof is as follows:

* Free Standing
* Durable enough for near-indefinite use (or as close to it as possible without obliterating my knees)
* 2-3 Person (I am one person but it would be for potentially truly living it)

My research has lead me to the Hilleberg Allak (maybe the 3, since it's less than a pound more than the 2 for notably more room to call my own). I'm aware it's on the heavier side of things at just over 8lb packed, and rather tanky, but I am looking for at least some degree of the latter.

I have a Marmot Limelight 2p and love it. Easy to set up, good headroom, great ventilation. Haven't used it in rain but it has held up well to wind (15 - 20 mph).

Cost is not an issue, but I am not looking to spend $600 if I can get what I need for $300 and I can upgrade some other items with the savings.  Right now, most of our gear is base camp oriented and not backpacking.  I got a few of these suggestions from other posts in this Reddit. A number of leading ultralight tents are built with Dyneema—the high-tech fabric commonly used in boat sails and praised for its strength-to-weight ratio—and the Zpacks Duplex is best in class. With an incredibly low all-in weight of just 1 pounds 5 ounces (counting stakes and using two trekking poles for support), it’s by far the lightest tent here, yet still sleeps two and includes a bathtub floor for protection from the elements. In use, we found the Zpacks to feel decently roomy for its weight with a 48-inch peak height, and you can adjust the dimensions fairly easily depending on the campsite and conditions. In the end, no ultralight tent is perfect, but the Duplex is a high-quality option that has been relied upon by serious thru-hikers for years.

What are the shortcomings of the Zpacks Duplex? We’ve had no issues with water entering the tent—even while camping in snow—but the open sides and thin materials definitely can make it feel drafty in certain conditions. Second, with a trekking pole design you don’t get the steep walls of tents like the Copper Spur above, making the Zpacks a feasible but cramped option for two backpackers. And third, setting up the tent is more complicated than with a freestanding model, so we recommend practicing before heading out to make sure you know how to get a taut, even pitch. I want bug protection and rain protection because I don't like bugs (f ticks) and sleeping out gives me the creeps sometimes, so not really into the tarp and bivy. It seems to me like the Zpacks Duplex (occasionally bring my wife or a friend) would be a good option, being 19oz and having bug and rain protection integrated (not a tarp or bivy system, so it's simpler i.e. one piece)

Gossamer The Two vs. Zpacks Duplex

 One of the biggest benefits to the Dynamo material is that it's waterproof. This tent is 100 waterproof. I've never had any sort of leaking. I've had no issues

 You don't have to worry about the coatings aging and having to be reapplied. There's very little here with this tint that's going to age and that's not the case with copycat versions of this tent. I know that I've said a lot in regards to this tent, so let me wrap this up. in the end: this is a very impressive tint

Everyone Copies This Tent For A Reason - Zpacks Duplex Ultralight Tent Review

 So I won't go into any more specs on it because I'm sure you can find a lot of information out there about it. Let's talk about my opinion of this tent after 3,000 miles on the trail and what I like about it and what I don't like about it. So first off, obviously what I love about the tent is how insanely lightweight and roomy it is. As far as I'm concerned, it is the only tent that is this big that has this much room and is that low in weight

ZPacks Duplex 3,000+ Mile Review

 However, the ONE thing that is bad about BOTH tents is the way the end tie outs are sewn and sealed. The tents BOTH leak at the tie out points. This is due to the way they are sealed. It seams as if the seam seal was applied FIRST and then the tie outs sewn into the fabric

UPADATED AGAIN: I have purchased both the 1 and 2 person tent. Seems like very well quality and lightweight. However, the ONE thing that is bad about BOTH tents is the way the end tie outs are sewn and sealed. The tents BOTH leak at the tie out points

 The tent leaked at both ends where the tie outs are sewn into the fabric. These points are seam sealed, so I do not know why or how it leaked at both points. The water on the floor of the tent was about the size of a quarter. I have since sprayed all of the fly seams and the tie out points with silicone treatment

Very lightweight.

 So we just/\s/want to lower that down and make sure you're/\s/ not getting rain splatter and wind coming/\s/into the tent so we'll just open the doors. We'll take our trekking poles which/\s/are set to around 120 centimeters now/\s/ Zpax recommends 122. But for a storm pitch you/\s/can come down to 110 or maybe even lower and/\s/ you can see that just brought us down a bunch. So/\s/now we'll just tighten this guy line a little bit/\s/ redo our doors, tighten our doors, you can/\s/see how much lower that even brought us/\s/ Now if we go ahead and do the same to the other/\s/side or we could technically even bring this lower/\s/ and we could bring yeah, if it was really storm and/\s/then we'd want to bring this in basically as tight/\s/ as you can for the doors

 Don't just stuff them door flaps in guy/\s/lines to the middle mosquito net tucked under. Now we like to float it in thirds first wind. a little more complicated when it's/\s/windy just tuck that back in there so we're folding thirds and/\s/then pull it into the middle, squish the air out again. make sure that/\s/everything is like tucked inside

How to Setup the Zpacks Duplex | + Tips & Tricks

hey what's up guys it's kodak today i want to 
show you how to set up the z-packs duplex in  

six simple steps i think this is one of the best 
tent that's ever been made it's been copied a lot  

and we've been using this one in particular for 
the last year and a half we first carried it on  

the pct last year and now starting next week we'll 
be carrying it on the great divide trail in canada  

so step number one is going to be check your 
ground make sure there's nothing like sharp or  

pointy that can puncture the tent and then 
go ahead and lay it out number two is stake  

out the four corners leave them somewhat 
loose we'll tighten them in a future step  

step number three is to set up the 
trekking pole and stake out the sides

step number four is to go around and tension 
and tighten all your lines right now we have a  

decent pitch but it's still a little bit loose 
and now we'll just go through start with the  

ridge lines so just tighten one side and then 
the other and now we'll tighten our four corners

all right at the end of the video we'll go 
through and show some like common problems  

and if it's like a little bit off and we'll talk 
about yeah just like some solutions for how to fix  

like a wonky tent but for now we'll keep moving on 
to step number five we're just going to pull out  

the guy lines over our head and our feet there's 
a few ways to go about this one you can just  

stake it directly into the ground like that 
and you can see that's going to pull it out  

a little bit and help just secure the tent 
in the event of like strong winds or storms
