Hello everyone,

Please excuse me as I introduce myself as a level 3 newb. I've done a couple things, played around with a raspberry pi a few times (for literally *dozens* of hours mostly spent frustrated), and have just a bit more knowledge and experience than your average tech nerd newb.

I don't really know where else to pose this question so here it is. My #1 concern/priority is privacy, mostly with regards to big tech etc and I also obviously care about security. I spend about 12-16 hours per day on my Chromebook and cryptocurrency is my life.

Should I go all out and simply buy a System76 Lemur Pro or should I just reformat (or whatever the correct term is lol) my old asus Chromebook into a Linux build? Or do I even need to bother doing either of these things? Most of my time is spent online, so does it really matter if I have a Linux OS or Chromium? Or does the biggest factor revolve around my online privacy, and nothing *really* has to do with specifically what OS I have?

The System76 Lemur Pro looks absolutely beautiful and it's not too crazy expensive so I think the convenience of buying an out of the box Linux laptop would be worth it. But do I really need to go Linux with privacy being my main concern?? I've been doing so much research with regards to mobile phone privacy and I've got that just about set up for my own personal needs, and I'm just starting to look at my laptop in terms of the same goals with regards to privacy and de-googleing myself.

Buy new System76 Lemur Pro Laptop OR put Linux onto old Chromebook? (Privacy is #1 concern)

Battery life of atleast 7 hours while running applications would be great. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I was first looking into Thinkpad T480 and other models as I have had thinkpad for the last six years. But a friend of mine suggested brands such as MSI and Gigabyte and now I am not quite sure what to look for

On my ThinkPad T480 with Intel UHD 620, I struggle to run many not-too-demanding games like Valorant and CS:GO at a smooth 60 fps without turning my graphics settings all the way down, and more demanding games like Fortnite (don't judge) straight up crash. I've looked through ThinkPad lineups, and some ThinkPads that I have found with dedicated graphics, like the X1 Extreme and the P1, have great performance but at the major cost of battery life, which is quite important to me.

The Enter key is SO soft and mushy and I've noticed many of the keys, like the pair of Space bars, are also soft and don't register contact multiple times. VERY frustrating as I can type around 50 wpm and I'm having to Backspace WAY too much! GRR!. I want to send this POS back and try another brand, but I've found no other alternatives in my searches.

 It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students. Having 2 classes in row will mean you're looking to sit near a plug in class to keep it charged. You can dim the screen down but that's not always possible when you're in a bright classroom

 My old model, with a card slot, I routinely swapped out cards depending on my usage. I was hoping the battery life was some improved. It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students

We did not open the shrink wrap as there was no indication of a keyboard. Be aware of false depictions of keyboard included even in the video. Otherwise, the product should be ok if you want a tablet, not a PC.
